Higher Ground 2011/2012 Open Subrace Build Contest Once again Higher Ground is hosting an open subrace build contest to help update and improve this section of the forums. The open subrace forums has, in the past, been an invaluable tool to help new players learn how to build and play in this highly customized game world. While our community has never needed rewards to be strong advocates of Higher Ground, this is a fun way of expediting the process and rewarding our veteran players for their hard work. This will be our second contest. The first contest was a tremendous success and we are hoping that more players will join in the fun this time round. Official Contest Rules: Builds must meet the posting standards outlined in the Open Subrace Build Posting Guidelines thread to enter this contest. If they do not, they will be removed from the contest and the open subrace section of the build forums.
Builds will be judged on soundness, innovation, and applicability to new players. Part of innovation is your builds name. Formatting and extra features that help make the build friendly to new players will set your build apart from others. Please be creative and work hard at this. Spelling and grammar count, so please proofread or have others proofread your work.
You may enter builds you have posted in the past, however, it is expected that the build progression and formatting will be improved. New builds are always appreciated, especially if they illustrate classes or content that is missing from the open subrace forums in general. Entering builds that have the same control class as other builds is allowed, so long as your build differs in progression or in some nuanced way from content already present. You may have more than one entry in the contest, but keep in mind that we are looking for quality and not quantity.
Deadline for build entries will be Midnight January 8th, 2012 (PST)Contest is now closed. Winners on Page 6

I would like to submit a pure cleric build and a pure Conjurer build - two of my favourite toons right now. However, due to lack of experience with NWN and HG, I expect (hope) that my builds will change under public scrutiny. Does this exclude me from participating? I plan to post them anyway, someday, because as a new player I have wished for more build options (especially pure builds).
Thanks for doing this!!

vorsh I was fairly new when the first of these was done and put in 2 builds maybe 3 not sure if one of my 3 open builds was in the contest or not. I put up fairly strong builds considering how new I was at the time as I don't think I had a single BUR item then. I also chose to do builds for classes which had no posted, or at least highlighted, builds on the wiki page. I intend to do some similar work this time and I think one of my already posted builds was not used in the last one so I think I might enter it.

Does that include vestiges?
FULL set? Or...?
Great contest idea btw, looking forward to the builds and the rewards are sweet.

The idea is that the prizes should be equivalent more or less in terms of effort. Getting a bur augmenter of your choice can make a huge difference to a player. You can put that on an item of your choice, so you can literally have an ideal item for your character. But, you may value a temporal autocaster or something else more. Personally I have several planewalker rings but there are other set I just cannot get my hands on. So, value is a personal decision.

Yes you can get a full set of crafting books. I was thinking about it and increased the number of set crafting items you can select to 2. That way the decision is a little harder. The crafting books have a higher over all value but the set crafting items could feasibily net you 2 items worth of augmenters. Of course they're only useful if you already have items with UR augmenters that you need to remove.
You will also notice that all of the top winners get access to tier 3. If you work hard, there is a good chance of at least getting something from that tier.

Guessing the craft book set means the ones dropping on normal loot tables, since in past DM's have spawned the augent stripping book on special even loot - if that is part of the it alone is better than any 1 craft item (including ulith/serp blood). My guess is this is what Bazukar meant to ask if the strip book is in the set.

Yes there is a book that can strip an UR aug off an item and that is in the set. It is also why I modified the prize winnings for that tier.

I'll put one of mine up for sure. Just to ask though, before the deadline is hit, am I allowed to edit the formatting of the build even when a build is posted? I'm pretty busy on weekdays (job) but I should be able to touch them up on the weekend.
