I guess it's time to compare notes. I keep hearing about all these robed pale masters running around, but I guess there's no thread for them.
This is a character I'm levelling up. Spelljammer because I have it, and also +4 Con in addition to base Gnome is nice. The small size of gnome is irrelevant because becoming a lich transforms you into a medium skeleton.
"Spelljammer" (secret Beyond UltraRare)
- DEX +2, CON +4, INT +6, WIS -2, free feat: Spell Penetration, free feat: Craft Wand, free feat: Epic Skill Focus - Concentration, +40 use magic device
Gnome base, so you get Spell Focus: Illusion, +2 to concentrate, and +2 skills/level at 41 retroactively.

For skills, max out Spellcraft, Lore, Concentration, Craft Armor, Appraise, Heal, Hide and Craft Weapon. Cross class Discipline, Tumble, Listen and Search. As you can tell not all of these are critical but you will have skill points and to spare.
For spells, besides Necro and Illusion spells plus Power Word: Kill, you'll want to get Higher Ground Enhanced, and take Rainbow Pattern, Eyebite, Disintegrate, Undeath to Death, on top of the usual Weird, Wail, Greater Sanctuary, etc etc. You'll also want to find a Time Stop scroll 'somewhere' in the mod.
Read the ESF Transmutation book. I'm going Necro spec, and barring Enchantment and Evocation.
So you end up with the auto-rez and Wall epics, maxed out caster level (before Energy Drain you have +76 vs Spell Pen) and DCs (Wail DC 60, Weird 65).
I'd like to fit Toughness in here, and also get more saves; as is, they end up at 57/46/59. I don't think anything can really be done without dropping an epic though, and that further devalues your PM bonus feats. It's sort of non-crucial I think being that your con is pretty high anyway and you'll be making most of your relevant saves I guess.
The only thing you really change for Genie is a total of -2 to Con and +2 to Wis, so -1 to Fort and +1 Will and you get an extra feat from Greater Spell Pen being a bonus, so you have the choice of either swapping Epic Will for Iron Will/Legendary Will, or taking Toughness to make up for the lost hp. I might choose the former, but I'm not sure.
With Illithid I would start with 18 Int and 17 Con (19 for being a gnome), and put the random point in Strength or something. Or you could go with 17 con as a gnome and get 14 wisdom. You have to shift feats around; you drop Epic Will (but that's okay I guess because you still get Iron Will) so you can take Spell Pen and shift one of the base feats into the epics, and one of the Great Int feats into the LLs, one of which you get to skip for having an odd Int bonus.
For Negatai I would burn the book. Honestly. Unfortunately it's just not as good as Spelljammer or Genie at all for Pale Masters for any build, armored or otherwise. I guess technically it outshines Illithid because of the +6 Int but if you're willing to take -1 on your DCs you could just go Illithid over it anyway for all the difference it makes.
Anyone have any input on Mage Armor? Should it be Hellball? If neither are useful one could always go with Blinding Speed
