This build is designed as a sturdy self-buffing tank that can take punishment and still deal out decent damage. It is a SMITER OF EVIL (and the dreaded neutrals - were they just born with a heart full of neutrality?)
The first iteration is a sword and board build using longsword (undervalued weapon) and takes full smite feats. 19-20 x3 and 18-20 x2 work out roughly the same for damage when you are hitting things regularly (which you should be), a 20 x4 (eg warhammer) could be used for a lower AB build where you hit less regularly. If you go 2H then use falchion or greatsword over scythe.
It can be converted to 2H without much effort, though your mileage may vary depending on level and available equipment. See notes at the end.
Pharlan is a BUR race that gives +6 strength, +4 wisdom and +4 charisma. It also has levitation and spell resistance (15 + level). It gives Divine Might for free.
Tip - you can control the shade of your wings by using the hair and tattoo colours during level up. They display in bands from top to bottom.
The good:
The bad:
The ugly:
You end with 52 cha, nearly everyone else is ugly compared to you.
Race: Half Elf / "Pharlan"
Alignment: Lawful Good (though any flavour of Good will keep your paladin bonuses after 40)
Stats
What?? Okay so I use excel to track my builds, this is a table from that. Here is what each thing means. Meant to be read in order (left to right)
Start - put this in during character creation
Race - this is what it looks like after racial bonus is applied
Pre-LL - what stats look like at 40 after level up 1-40 (every 4 levels)
Feats - what stats look like at 40 after using feats (greater cha, greater str, etc)
LL (auto) - what stats look like at 60 after class bonuses (eg paladin gets +4 cha, +4 str)
LL - what stats look like at 60 after increasing abilities during level up
Arti - what stats look like after using artifact (if applicable)
2xD - what they look like after double demi (+2 first demi cycle, +2 second cycle)
PL - added paragon level points (2 per stat)
EQ - with +16s
So basically at 80, double demi, +16 eq and artifact your stats should match the last column.
Note, this is what points go in at every level - do not add great str feats, they are automatically added when you hit level 41 and the great smite feats are converted
On to the build. Please pay attention to the attribute to level up on each level. It finishes on an odd number at level 40 but this evens out in LLs. There are 7 points into Cha and 3 into Dex in 1-40. Then 1 and 5 in LLs.
Start with a level in Fighter to be able to take less wisdom - start with 8 and pharlan adds 4 to give 12.
Note, if levelling this up from scratch you will not get level 3 or level 4 spells until getting your first demi or sufficient paragon level points. You could swap 2 dex or 2 str in LLs for 2 points of wisdom instead.
Tome:
Use the tome of spell focus enchantment to push your GMW spell to +13
Pandect:
Whatever you like. You could drop OC/DC or the flex paragon feat to squeeze in legendary disarm if you read the disarm pandect
Artifact:
Strength - gives +2 str and stun immune
Legendary & Paragon Levels
The order to take them is up to you. Armor Skin can be shuffled to Legendary Levels if you want to push Dev Crit into Paragon levels. Feel free to mix up the order of the feats to suit your progress.
LEGENDARY FEATS
legendary skill affinity tumble
legendary skill affinity listen
Legendary Weapon Focus (longsword)
Legendary Weapon Specialization (longsword)
Epic Skill Focus (Hide)
Overwhelming Critical (longsword)
Devastating Critical (longsword)
Take the following stat points to even things out. You can move some additional strength into dex if you wish. Paladins get +4 str and +4 cha between 40 and 60.
Charisma 1
Dexterity 5
Strength 4
Legendary Skills: Max Discipline, Parry, Listen (after taking LSA Listen), Tumble to 60 (after LSA Tumble), max Hide and put the rest in Craft Armor.
PARAGON FEATS (any order)
Paragon Environmental Adaptivity 1
Paragon Environmental Adaptivity 2
Paragon Environmental Adaptivity 3
Paragon Weapon Focus (longsword)
Paragon Weapon Specialization (longsword)
Armor Skin
Paragon Skills: Max Hide, bring CA to 63 and put the rest in CW.
Skills:
Concentration - 20 points is the tank standard
Discipline - 63
Hide (CC) - max it, 21 at 40, 31 at 60, 41 at 80 (+ ESF taken as a feat)
Parry - 63
Listen - 63
Tumble - 60 (max at level 57)
Craft Armor - put remaining points here, every 40 points (including bonuses, not just ranks) equals +1 AC
Craft Weapon - put remaining points here, every 40 points (including bonuses, not just ranks) equals +1 AB
Notes for going 2H:
Swap out Extend Spell at level 15 for Divine Shield to get 10 shield AC when active.
I'd advise waiting till in your 70s and double demi before going 2H as it can be an unforgiving place.
2H AC on this can be quite good overall with decent dex, divine shield AC and conceal from camouflage.
Armor Skin can be shuffled to Legendary Levels if you want to push Dev Crit into Paragon levels. Feel free to mix up the order of the feats to suit your progress.

Tip - you can control the shade of your wings by using the hair and tattoo colours during level up. They display in bands from top to bottom.
The good:
- 10 great smite feats turn into +10 strength at level 41, but also results in great saves and divine might/shield durations due to the high charisma.
- Great Smite recharges every 2 minutes and has 96 AB (touch), doing (at 80) 104 d20 elemental/exotic + 25 d20 sacred damage per smite in an AOE effect (~ 2600 max damage before resist/immune). Refer to the wiki for more information on Great Smite.
- Divine shield and might last ~6 minutes a cast and you have about 20 of them per rest. (note: Divine Shield is not taken on the 1H build, but you can take it at 15 instead of Extend Spell if you really want it).
- If taken, Divine shield gives +10 shield AC (as well as 20 dodge ac, 21% divine immune, etc) and is required if you wish to go 2H.
- Divine Might gives an additional +31 damage per hit while active, pushing a 1H build into decent damage territory when you include the full weapon spec feat range (+20) and OC/DC.
- Conceal (with level 60 camouflage and hide skill) hits 65% and Listen is maxed.
- AB is decent at 110 maxed if you can get 120 craft weapon, and paladin self buffs with GMW 13, 4 dice of divine and 5 dice of sonic, and holy sword.
- Crit immune with castings of Death Ward, maxed Parry
- With heavy armor and shield, should be looking ac 133 or so. With light armor (3 AC) maybe up to 138-140 depending on EQ/shield and girding/armor skin. Going 2H and light armor with div shield should be around 130+. However it would be advisable to be closer to 80 and double demi with good EQ before going the 2H route. You top out at a 17 dex mod and light armor (3ac) goes up to 19 dex.
- Nearly uni, 64 str and 44 dex. Wear an asmo belt to bump that up and only the nasty stuff will bother you.
- Paladin self buffs are pretty good - FOM, DW, Lifes Grace, AOV (+10% physicals), weapon buffs, bless, aid, prayer, etc.
The bad:
- This is not optimised as a massive damage dealer. It does not have the double conceal of a fighter, the mind immunes of a COT, etc. Paladins can be a little glass-cannony, though this is pretty sturdy.
- It is not that sturdy until getting 1x demi, and actually sucks a lot before 40 too if you were to play it from scratch (low str, low wis).
No Parry skill taken, relying on death ward instead. Can modify skill selection, or drop 2 starting STR for 2 starting INT instead to take Parry. This was changed, if you dont want Parry then swap 2 points of Int for 2 points of Str.- Note, if levelling this up from scratch you will not get level 3 or level 4 spells until getting your first demi or sufficient paragon level points.
- No disarm feats
