Hi there! :-)
Before I introduce our secret organization, I'd mention some smaller detail which might be of your interest.
This guild would have interest in many part of HG. Though it focuses on hell runs, we're interested in LL and even in lowbie areas, as making your way through them can be really fun. So our main point is to have fun wherever you travel on HG's vast lands, and getting along with, helping other people, as it is also part of having a good time here.
Important that we require all applicants and members to stay in touch, so if they need to be absent for a week or longer, we would know that they aren't leaving. Also, no dual-guilding please.
As for the guild, there's a tipsy-dipsy long and melodramatic background story about us. :-)
The Red Shield
Every age has its famous heroes, who are known to everyone wherever they travel. The deeds of these people, already a legend in their lifetime is the talk in the taverns, and many cheers for them, or being jealous of their fame. These kind of heroes are, who the Realms' cities and armies depend on in times of great peril. But they're not the only ones who could be called as such. People of unknown or questionable origin, appearing and vanishing, like a ghost in the night have done even more services sometimes, though their deeds and names never became the subject of prayers and gratitude. And they're still among us, watching over the cities, content with simply longing for a peaceful life. We wanted to be that way once as well.
But we didn't receive anything a single thanks for our work and dedication, only abusement, suspicions, and shunning. Everyone who knew our work looked at us with fear and hatred in their eyes. We were outlaws, exacting orders no one else would, completing them as no one else would. Shadows in the night, that's what we were, nothing more, nothing less. Years passed by with no sign of change. And slowly, before we knew it, a plan was set in motion to erase us forever. We were being declared guilty for an assassination we never committed, and the hunt has started against us. We had to scatter and hide throughout the North, the Sword Coast, anywhere where we could be safe for even a moment. But they were after us, hunting down us one by one. The once feared group slowly melted to a handful of people, knowing all too well, that we don't stand a chance. We only had one last resort.
We heard the rumors about the Crown of Immortality, claiming that it grants immortality to those who get it. We had no choice. We made our way to Ascension in search of the Crown, though it nearly costed our lives to get it from the drow lurking in Manatakloss. And we still had to fight the very person who guarded the forge which crafted the Crown. But we gained immortality in the end, and with that power, we fought back, and crumbled the organization with one strike. After that though, something happened we didn't calculate in beforehand.
Exacting vengeance was one thing, but what could we do after that? We were immortals, but we had no cause to serve, nor home to return to. We didn't know what to do about this immortality and were killing time aimlessly for many days. But after a small raid on Ascension where we helped the militia repelling the invaders, everything changed somehow. The people of the city accepted us as their own, and we found the very thing we never thought we would find, a place we can call home. We reformed Red Shield at that time, and started to watch over at the city and its inhabitants.
But make no mistake, we're not the avatars of justice though. We have never been to begin with. To defend Ascension means doing missions not to the taste of zealots, and using methods that'd send chills down on anyone's spine. We believe that ne must do evil for the greater good if the situation calls for it, but we do not entirely belong to good, nor evil. Twisted warriors and warped geniuses found and can find their home here just as much as virtous paladins and kind-natured, cute priestesses, because we all have a bond that links us together. After all, light cannot exist without darkness...
