You lose the extra attacks, For most people the gain of some saves and ac is unnecessary. Using a shield means they gains an amount of ac/saves/resists that they don't particularly want or need, and lose the extra damage and mortal strike opportunities which is the point of this build and stops it being simply mediocre.

I have read most of this thread with interest ... I had a rather odd/crazy idea that I want to ask about ... Clearly the double-weapon + WM7 + dev crit route is horribly impractical due to the feat requirements. But what about Falchion + WM7 + dev crit? I did a few quickie calculations and believe I can get to 66 str (2xD and Str arti). I guess the MS DC would be 56. The crit range would be 10-20/x4, so damage would be quite decent and MS potential almost as good as an Assassin dagger user. The appeal for me is that there are plenty of falchions available and it would be something different (go-go 2-hander . My "test" build would be M3-As30-WM7. I guess I should build it in the chamber. Subrace would be limited to Half-Kyton in order to get all the feats in. Thoughts, ideas, discussion etc welcome.

sure that would be fine, but the whole purpose of this build was to pump as many MS strikes as possible per round. You are suggesting a regular assassin with a huge weap. For your option I would suggest using a large subby and a shield, cause really... what is the point if you are not gaining the extra attacks other than style points?

I know someone out there (maybe db) has a falchion assasin. It's an interesting concept.

Style is what Iwas going for ... well, style + functionality (as opposed to style + überness).

So I have reached lvl 60 with my Human/Half-Kyton F3-As30-WM7 build and discovered that saves are a bit low (57/58/55). Should I use Saves Arti instead of Str Arti? My final Str @ 60 in gear will be 60 without arti and without demi bonus.
He does extremely well in LLs with a 10-20/x4 crit range (Falchion + Dev Crit + WM7) and damage output as a 2-hander is quite high. In hells he gets decent numbers of kills but I am concerned about survivability. BUR gear will increase it, but the saves seem like a weak link in the chain.
Advice welcome.

I wouldn't use the saves arti personally. Those saves aren't *that* bad.

Yeah, and besides, since you're an assassin you're a prime target for greater restoration, so you should be just fine.

So do you still need to take the two weapon fighting feats for this build in order to get the off-hand attacks?
