Burninator, nothing like turning something to dust with a thought =). This build uses the new bloodfire mage Quasiclass. (And I am *not* a pyromanic!!!!) Basics: By 20: 10/10 Sorc/RDD By 40: 29/10/1 Sorc/RDD/Pal Note: MUST be lawful good. (You can change alignment after lvl 40) Fovored Race/Subrace: Human, Kobold, Yuan-Ti, 1/2 Prissy, Rakshasa, Shard, Radiance Gensai. Stats: Base, In order Str/Dex/Con/Int/Wis/Cha (Remember to adjust if using an off subrace, this build uses human just to make things easy for the reader. 8/10/14/14/8/18 Skills: Want Concentration, Spellcraft, Discipline, Tumble, lore, and parry. Remember to get 8 lore. With recent changes, this build has become extremely skill tight, you have 6 skills to max. I added a section at the end about which skills you want to take. Level Progression: 1: Src, Take SF and ESF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1&2 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 3&4 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 5&6 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha, Remember, i'm using human as the base template here, so sub modifiers may vary numbers at the end. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 7 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Gcha 10 60: Epic Skill Focus Lore Calculated Stats: By 40: 12/10/16/14/8/37 By 60: 12/10/16/14/8/50 AB: Melee: 23, Ranged: 22 AC: 19/21 Saves: (Fort/Ref/Will) 37/30/37 (I think, not exactly sure though, should be somewhat accurate though, these numbers are the 40 calculation, you should have enough saves for pretty much everything though.) My burninators saves when maxed are 80/74/80, and that is enough for *anything* HP: 370/510 Spell Selection for sorc: 1s: Burning Hands*, Negray*, Mage armor, Expeditious Retreat, resist elements. 2s: Combust*, Flame weapon*, Endure Elements, Ghostly Visage, Lesser dispel 3s: Fireball*, Gust, Displacement, Flame Arrow*, 4s: Stoneskin*, Wall of fire*, Elemental Shield*, Orb of Fire*% 5s: Firebrand*, Energy Buffer*, Lesser Mantle, Mestil's Sheath 6s: Tensers Trans*, Bigbies shovey Hand, Flesh To Stone (Or EV) 7s: DB fireball*, Greater Orb of Fire*%, Graspy Hand (Not a bloodmage spell, but so useful anyway) 8s: Incindiary Cloud*, Greater Sanctuary, Bigby's big fist beats you up good. 9s: Meteor Swarm, Mordenkainen's, Crushing Hands *s are BFM spells and get your whole RDD+sorc level for casting %s require HG enhanced to use
Skills Section: You start with 5/lvl if you have a 14 INT. You get 6/lvl once you hit 14, so through levels 1-13, its 5. 1 gives you 4 for that level, so, you get. 16(5) SP=80 Skills pts. After that, you get 6 levels 14-60. That will give you.. (60-13)=(47)(6)=282 282+60=342 If you base INT 12, you get 279 Skills you want. Concentration: 63 Spellcraft: 63 Lore: 63 Parry(Dump): 43 Discipline(Dump): 43 Tumble(CrossClass): 60 (This is 60 points spent, yet 30 points gotten) With some basic addition skills: 63+63+63+43+43+60=335 Now then, if you take INT 12, you cut one of your skills down by 56 (OUCH!). Take INT 14, even if it costs you some DEX and AC You have 7 spare points, you might as well spend them on craft armor so with enough buffage you can get some of your AC back.

First off, congratulations on your quasiclass The point of this quasiclass is to do damage, you're still a caster. I'd skip on Armor Skin (unless you have feats to burn), and pick up Silent Spell for an extra level of spell slots. Spell Penetration feats I tend to take last, when they actually matter (c'mon, not like kobolds are gonna have SR). If you have free feats, definitely boost saves, you'll want them all above 60.

Subrace Subroutine: With Yuan-Ti: Yuan-Ti is another open subrace option, but I don't like the look. : /. I took kobold, but vanity first. Starting Stats: (Under is with sub mods) 8/11/14/13/8/18 7/12/14/14/5/20 Feat Progression: 1: Src, Take SF and GSF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1&2 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 3&4 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 5&6 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 7 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Gcha 10 60: Epic Skill Focus Lore With Rakshasa: Rakshasa makes a very nice bread-and-butter bfm. +4 charisma goes along well with the idea of maxing DCs on this build, the penalties to constitution can be annoying, and you could always sacrifice 2 cha and put into dex if you think you're going to be too squishy. 8/8/15/14/8/18 7/8/14/14/8/22 Alternatively, you could sacrifice 2 CHA and go: 8/14/15/14/8/16 7/14/14/14/8/20 1: Src, Take SF and GSF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1&2 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 3&4 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 5&6 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 7 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Gcha 10 60: Epic Skill Focus Lore With Atomie Atomie is small and fast, and you can get a very high dexterity making a much more stable BFM that is resistant to dexterity checks in the hells. You won't get the best DCs but the stability will help a lot. The build starts with an odd charisma count so you want to take an odd number of great charismas. 6/15/14/14/8/17 6/18/14/16/8/19 1: Src, Take SF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, GSF Evocation 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Greater Penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1, Epic Penetration 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 2&3 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 4&5 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 6 51: Gcha 7 54: Gcha 8 57: Gcha 9 60: Epic Skill Focus Lore With Chaos Gnome: 6/12/16/12/8/18 6/14/16/12/8/22 Chaos gnome has a bit of a higher constitution than most other subraces, but also gets more skills and a free illusion focus. It would be a shame to waste the illusion focus, but you can get LSF illus for a more stable character if you juggle your feats around. 1: Src, Take SF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, GSF Evocation 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Greater Penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1, Epic Penetration 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 2&3 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 4&5 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 6 51: Gcha 7 54: Gcha 8 57: Gcha 9 60: Gcha 10 With Shard: Shard makes for one of the most stable bfms you can get. You are very fast, and with exp retreat, can position yourself very easily into good locations, a high dexterity means you are resistant to said checks, and a good constitution means you can take more damage and kickback. 8/10/14/14/8/18 8/14/18/14/8/22 1: Src, Take SF and GSF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 1&2 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 3&4 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 5&6 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 7 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Gcha 10 60: Epic Skill Focus Lore With Radiance Genasi: The radiance Genasi has the highest DC possible, and gets some nice bonus feats to boot. This is a very solid choice for a BUR sub bfm. With the bonus feats, I decided to jump for the Auto-Still Spell line. 8/12/14/12/8/18 6/14/16/14/8/24 You get Empower and Max free, so you'll have to juggle things around a little. 1: Src, Take SF and GSF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Spell Focus Illusion 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Greater Spell Focus Illusion 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, G-Cha 1 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 2&3 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 4&5 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 6&7 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: ESF Illusion 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Gcha 10 60: ESF Lore With Negatai: Negatai is an interesting choice for a bfm. You get the automatic still spell line automatically meaning you can cast in full armor and a tower shield, and the intelligence bonus means you get a lot more skills to play with. Negatai makes for a very stable bfm. 8/14/14/10/8/18 8/14/16/16/8/20 1: Src, Take SF and GSF Evocation 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, Toughness 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Armor skin 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, G-cha 1, G-Cha 2 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 3&4 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Gcha 5, Auto still 3 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) With all available Stat points, put into Cha. 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 6 51: Gcha 7 54: Gcha 8 57: Gcha 9 60: Gcha 10 With Half-Eladrin: Half-eladrin is a pretty interesting choice for a caster bfm, the STR is almost useless for you, but you do end up with some flexibility with 2 G-Chas already taken for you. Odd charisma shift also has to be factored in. You also get more skills allowing you to lower your int as well. I managed to fit in the illusion foci as well. Stats: 6/14/14/12/8/18 (Gnome) 13/14/14/12/8/23 1: Src, Take SF Evocation, (SF illusion comes free) 2: Src 3: Src, Take Spell penetration. 4: Src 5: Src 6: RDD, Greater Spell penetration 7: RDD, 8: RDD, 9: RDD, GSF Evocation 10: RDD 11: RDD 12: RDD, Empower Spell 13: RDD 14: RDD 15: RDD, Resist fire energy 16: Src 17: Src 18: Src, Maximize spell. 19: Src 20: Src (You are now a bloodfire mage, yaaaaaay!) 21: Src, Greater Spell Focus Illusion 22: Src 23: Src 24: Src, Epic penetration 25: Src 26: Src 27: Src, Extend Spell 28: Src 29: Src 30: Src: Epic focus Evocation 31: Src 32: Src 33: Src, Gcha 3&4 34: Src 35: Src 36: Src, Gcha 5&6 37: Src 38: Src 39: Src, Epic Focus Illusion, Toughness 40: Pal, Max Discipline, (Use trans book) 42: Legendary Penetration 45: Legendary Focus evocation 48: Gcha 7 51: Gcha 8 54: Gcha 9 57: Legendary Focus Illusion 60: Armor Skin

I'd say medium armor and a caster shield and you're slightly out on the saves 85 Fort 84 Will 74 Reflex on my build based on Half-Celestial with an initial Cha of 22 after subby changes. H-C is definitely a good choice for this build due to the +4 Cha and two free evocation feats, sandwalking and 70 sr are nice as well.

Probably Rakshasa, relatively easy to get if you know how, but basically anything with a Cha boost and preferably no negative on Con the other stats are negotiable.

I'm tempted to fit in another two epics (one from a book and the other from feats) and at the minute I'm leaning towards transmutation for the wall and abjuration for the improved mass mord. Yes come running to me my prettys, oh dear there seems to be a wall between you and me and oh look all your spell protections have gone........EAT MS!

Well of course I'm going to give this guy a trans book! That way he can fill that role on pyramid and hells, and in other situations too. Abj is tempting though with the new fix, though, its hard to say if it is worth 2 charisma. As for subraces, Rakshasa is about as good as you can get with this character. For all intensive purposes, he is a sorcerer, and raks make good sorcs. I know that the 1/2 prissy will do quite well, cha bonus helps, and dragonblooded should do fine. (Though I would prefer rak). If you have BURs at your disposal, you should probably sort them in this order: Radiance Gensai, Shard, 1/2 Celestial. I like shards for the ability bonuses and the speed, and Rad Gensai is hard to turn down with its +6 cha. However, if you really like the abjuration thingy, take the 1/2 celestial, the feats will help, a lot. Other focuses aren't really all that great, you're just casting evocs anyway, and buff spells. And I don't think the other spells will do all that well. (Not worth 3 cha anyways) Oh, and for subs, I myself used kobold, because, well...

Have you taken this build to hells yet? If so how well did it do? I am building this using Rakshasa and only level 3 so I have not yet discovered the fun in "Blood Fire Mages."

I am about to start one of these, and was thinking of this small modification:
Drop Maximize, Armor Skin, Extend, and ESF: Discipline for Still and Auto Still 1-3. You have to get 27 Spellcraft to take these feats, but you should have room. Then you can equip all those tasty heavy armors and shields, and still blast away! Since this build won't miss EV or Premo (much), I think it's a decent trade off.
Comments?

Incendiary Cloud pales in comparison. As I've noted in a post on the general builds board, you'll want Extend for Displacement and other short-term buffs. I am constantly watching my icons to ensure that my non-Extended version doesn't run out at a bad time. Annoying. I'm also a fan of Combat Casting and ICC for any toon that will be casting Meteor Swarm. I like running into the middle of a big mass and spamming. I dislike Defensive Casting Mode, as I haven't had much success or practice with it. The kobold didn't even consider these for his last two feats, so I assume he is a master of the defensive cast. Cheers, Perin

Since I use kobolds, I just use the Sissy's blood if i'm that crazy about Combat Casting. At current, i'm not. Autostill does grant you access to shields and fullplate. The fullplate is minor, being that there are decent medium armors out there, but the shields are nice since you don't have to use a caster shield to avoid casting failure. If you *really* want to use those feats, I guess you can scrap... Toughness. Armor Skin (you should get more than 2 AC out of the free shield slot) Epic Disc (or something else) Not taking extend will get you killed, and this build is a little inflexible. 60 HP is a lot to lose, but I guess you could take one of those and miss out on 2 Greater chas. Your call though.

Burninator, nothing like turning something to dust with a thought =). This build uses the new bloodfire mage Quasiclass. (And I am *not* a pyromanic!!!!) I am! Sounds good... Seriously, nothing wrong with blowing stuff up, which this looks to do well... I might end up using Yuan-ti for it though On the 57 and 60 feats, Extend might come in handy if you do a lot of buffing. As you won't be, their isn't much point. Eipc focus Disc. sounds a bit excessive as well. If it was me, I'd go for Lightning/Epic Reflexes instead - more saves are always good.

If you're a cha based paladin, you're saves are probably going to be in the 70 range at *least*, so saves aren't a problem. And if you've been to hells, and have faced some DC 100 something disc checks, the 10 bonus might help. Yuan-ti is a good sub if you don't have access to the others, though kobold is cuter =)

I'm not saying the saves are bad - just that I prefer better ones to a bonus on disc. If you think having good disc. is better, by all means take it. I still think LR is better than extend. P.S. I do like Kobolds, I just want a CHA bonus and the novelty value of playing a Yuan-Ti .
