One of my first characters in HG was a wizard but it became frustrating for me as my spells seemed ineffective and I died allot. Currently he is an Illithid that I now only use to make scrolls.
I was thinking of using this build and drop silent and greater int 10, since i would land on odd number anyways, to acquire the spell pen feats that you get for free.
Would you mind giving a strategy summary on how you play this build. Do you play mostly like a Pale Master and go for insta kills? I know spells selection varies between areas but any input would be appreciated.
For example, I noticed you mentioned energy drain to boost your DC.
As far as how I play that's kinda hard to answer; it really depends on what other classes are present. For example, if there's a druid/turner/ploder that is easily wiping out mobs, then I go a bit more damage orientated. While they clean up "trash mobs (mobs that are easily insta'd) then I will focus on the big bag mobs like pit fiends and malebranches. Of all the orbs, my favorites are cold, acid and sonic.
If those classes are NOT present, then I definately go trash cleaning. I make sure I load up on stone to flesh, disintegrates, CoD, weirds, wails etc etc.
My main wiz has 56 (maybe higher) level 8 & 9 spells so I'm able to carry around lots of spells. On ANY run, I make sure to have a few level 9 bigsby's and Mords. I mem even more for levels where I know for 100% that raks will be present such as DIS, STYGIA and MALADOMINI.
Above all, remember you are a squishy little caster. Most wizard spells have very long range, so you can hang back and blast away. Ghostly visage is definately my best defense; it has no cool down timer and is perfect for repositioning. I carry 8 extended ghostly visage at all times, more for certain areas.
