Great, thanks for the quick replies. Yeah I figured dropping the lvl 9 grabby's probably wouldnt be such a great idea. I'll have to check out enerv.
...Energy Drain, not Enervation. Enervation's level 4. Unless, of course, you wanted that one also - which with Leg Necro, isn't a poor choice, though you're still beating the critter fort saves with a level 4 spell...so don't expect to land it at will.
(I use Energy Drain all the time though. Tasty stolen life force...)
for leveling, just try to slap on as much resists, immunities and ac as possible (dont bother with % immunities, you wont get enough to matter). dont forget +cha items to boost your spell dc. sorc has a good advantage over other casters here because youll end up with a lot more slots easily
ideally you would get the rare sorc staffs, but the store bought ones are alright. theres also a helmet for sale in the emporium that adds a few slots, a ring at item merchant and misc stuff at rips including more spell slot rings. lokis hall has a set of bracers that adds some slots, and theres a dagger in zhents that can be wielded offhand (or you can dual them if you cant find anything better)
its been a long time since i took my sorc to pre-hells runs, but wail is good just about everywhere except desert/db/maze (though it does have uses on the first two) and meteor swarm is effective in most places. horrids isnt bad, fod is usually effective though you wont always get the instakill
feel free to experiment, the sorc spell flexibility lets you try out different spells without requiring you to reset your book all the time
The thing to remember is that this is a LL spell set up...You most defiantly will need to change spells before entering the hells. Lvls, 5-9 will have to be changed to be more beneficial to the party and effective in hells.
Its better, there are lots of monsters that can be stoned, but not kded or have specific spell immunity to bigby 6. Includes para sahugins, excruciarches, para osyluths, para barbazu, and my all-time favorite, erinyes of all types.
The DC maxes out at DC 63, so landing it is rarely an issue unless the monster is not cursed.
