...it seems that any time I attempt now (for no discernable reason) to hit "join online game" in the NWN play menu - my computer completely freezes. Can't tab out, can't bring up the start menu or the ctr/alt/del menu. I have to resort to shutting it off by hitting the power button.
Its happened 4 times in a row now. Thoughts?

Dunno if it helps you Delf.
I had the same problem after I switched to Vista Ultimate 64bit. Got it resolved by only using Illandous HG Loader. Since then no crashes any longer at start of NWN.
If these circumstances do not apply to you, please ignore.
Best,
Mj.

Hmm. I've had Vista for some time now, and had little trouble with it. Apparently though, the crash isn't limited to the 'join multiplayer game' menu. I just got past that ok, but when I tried to go to the 'favorites' tab in Gamespy...total computer hang.
This is weird, it started for no reason last night. The only thing thats different is that now I use the DMClient from time to time.
Perhaps I should investigate the HG Loader, since the issue seems to be in some way related to communicating with Gamespy...

This might be your firewall. See, when you try joining Internet game whatever firewall you might use prompts you with a window whether to allow NWN application direct connection, but this said window fails to go on top of already running NWN.

Hmm. Would it do this only some of the time if that was the case??
I don't think I've changed anything on my connection/wireless network. Of course, there have been the ordinary number of Windows "updates" so who knows what they mess with.
Is there a way to find out?

I had this problem some tima ago. My problem was I used Zone Alarm and that program did an update, and after that update you need to confirm what programs to allow internet connection, and what programs who don't. I simply reset all of them as I was triggerhappy and blocked something in NWN to access internet, and voila '....
Even though this might be your case, It still should strengthen the suspection towards some kind of firewall /vista /program.
