The Ancestral Guardian acts as a medium, a gateway for the spirits of their ancestor's to cross into our world from theirs. Ancestral Guardians swear in oath to uphold the tenets and traditions of their ancestors, subsequently awarding them with the ancestor's favor. Their oaths require the guardian zealously discipline himself in the ways of his ancestors. Through this rigorous conditioning, the otherworldly bond between the guardian and his ancestors grows, increasing the amount of combat prowess and insight he is able to channel from "the other side."
Requirements:
Class: 15 Barbarian; 4 Paladin [By level 21]
Skills: 24 Intimidate
Feats: Resistance to Energy Cold
Abilities:
Ancestral Sword: The guardian recieves a special version of the bless weapon spell. By channeling a portion of the ancestor's might into your weapon, it gains supernatural properties:
(Overall character level/2) + 1d12 magical damage & lesser spell breach
[This affect does not stack with holysword.]
[Duration remains the same as Bless Weapon.]
Wrath of the Ancestors: The guardian recieves an enhanced version of the barbarian rage ability. (This replaces all original affects of barbarian rage. He also will not gain benefit from any feats such as mighty rage, etc. for the rage is no longer his but that of his ancestor's. He allows himself to be posessed entirely by the fury and avarice of his ancestors; this complete transformation leaves only the shell of his being, he is now more ghost than man:
Concealment bonus equal to overall character level + 1d10
Cold Immunity of 30%; an additional 1% immunity is granted every legendary level for a total of 50% at 60.
Damage Reduction bonus of +20/-5
Divine Vulnerability of 50%; for every legendary level gained, the penalty is reduced by 1% for a total of 30% at 60
-5 to all saves vs. necromancy school spells
[Duration is equal in rounds to the total number of Ancestral Guardian levels of the character.]
Eye of the Spirits: Requires Ancestral Guardian level 30: You feel a slight tingle on your forehead; yet, you disregard it as nothing. Time passes and the mysterious ache in your forehead grows sharper when suddenly you are overwhelmed with a searing pain as the flesh on your head splits itself. In surprise, you gasp and peer into a nearby mirror - There has appeared a bloody socket on your forehead, and in it lies an enigmatic third eye.
(Ancestral Guardian Level/2) bonus to spot & True Seeing
Gaseous Cohort: Requires Ancestral Guardian Level 40: The guardian's knowledge of his ancestors and the other side is nearly absolute. He is now able to fully manifest a spirit on our plane to defend him. The spirit functions like a black blade of disaster, its undamagable and basically unable to hurt anything. The Gaseous Cohort lasts only 5 rounds and is used only as a brief diversion. This ability may be used once per day.
Because the guardian's magic is afforded him not by the gods, but by his ancestors, his total number of barbarian and paladin levels are added to determine his paladin caster level.
The character does not gain the paladin's death ward critical immunity.
