not wanting to hi-jack overdrivers thread, i thought it best to just start a new one (feel free to merge the topics if that would be more appropriate)
The Skald:
combining the battle prowess of the barbarian with the inspirational singing of a bard, a skald is a strength tank that takes up part of the bard's role in a party.
Requirements:
- To qualify for Skald the character must have 11 levels of Bard, 9 levels of Barbarian, Still spell, Curse Song, Combat Casting and Weapon focus in a weapon of the characters own size category before level 22.
Benefits:
- Legendary Skalds with control class barbarian or bard may take the Lasting Inspiration feat in legendary levels without having to meet the requirements.
Battle casting:
- A Skald ignores all arcane spell failure while wearing medium armor and a shield.
Battle song:
- A Skald cannot use normal bard and curse song. Instead, he receives a usable token that represents his ability to sing a Battle song.
- Using this ability consumes 1 use of bard song and will create a medium sized aura around the Skald. Hostile creatures within the area of effect suffer the effects of a curse song, allied creatures gain the benefit of a bard song. While Battle song is active, it will continue to consume bard song uses every number of rounds equal to 3 times the number of available uses of barbarian rage, untill it is de-activated by using the token a second time.
- The effects last a minimum of 1 round. If the Skald has the Lingering song feat, the effects last at least 5 rounds, increasing to 10 rounds with the Lasting Inspiration feat.
- The strength of the effects are determined just like normal bard and curse song, with a few differences.
- Before legendary levels, the Skald gains 8 song points per Skald level to distribute among the normal 5 focuses for both bard and curse song. Instead of the perform skill, the Skald uses either the intimidate or persuade skill, whichever is highest, to determine the maximum song level.
- In legendary levels, if the Skald has control class Bard, he gains 9 points per Skald level for bard song and 6 points per level for curse song and uses persuade. If the characters control class is Barbarian, he gains 6 points per level for bard song and 9 points per level for curse song and uses intimidate.
Spells:
- Caster levels for certain spells (those listed below) are equal to Barbarian level + Bard level, including legendary levels if control class is Barbarian or Bard.
- Level 1: Balagarn's Iron Horn, Insidious Rythm, Mage Armor, Scare, True Strike
- Level 2: Bull's Strength, Deafening Clang, Heroism
- Level 3: Greater Magic Weapon, Fear, Keen Edge
- Level 4: Shout, War Cry
- Level 5: Improved Heroism, Wail of Doom
- Level 6: Dirge
Epic spells:
- A Skald may not cast any normal epic spell.
