ok lets solve this dilemma! If funky will give ten of us a free level 60 toon, we will start a full open race / secret / no subby race hell party. I will give up my next couple of weeks worth of runs on my normal toons and we can compare logs to full bur subby parties. I say we make carbon copies of one of our current toons (I would be sick enough to do a staff monk even using something silly like prismatic half dragon) I am ready! PHAL ! Star got loose from her room again! Get the Jacket !

Star, you can reinc down subraces, can't you? Just reinc your BUR monk into a Nymphkin.

Darc, Holes, and Yomi - nice work, that's the kind of analysis I was asking for. Especially interesting was Yomi's point about the diminishing returns of stats. It's likely that our weighting of the stats, which gives a fair amount of weight to disparate distribution (one stat being very high) as well as amount of stat points, is a little off, given the preponderance of unis. We're taking steps to ensure that there's reason to make non-uni builds as well, however, so I'm not eager to alter that weighting at this point, with the abyss about to drop.
We're also taking steps to make speed somewhat more of a factor, however, so HO may still need some help, even if we assume it was ok at conception (it may well not have been, though I used to see a few HOs traipsing about). Further, Intelligence is not nearly the throw-away stat that it more closely resembled when HO was conceived. I'm not particularly fond making our half ogres smarter, however, since that's sort of their schtick.
Either some other tweak, or removing the speed penalty, would probably be the best solution. I'm open to suggestions.

Cata, Gand was trying to look at only one parameter, and I think it's clear that an extra +4 or so to the main stat, all else being equal, makes a toon more effective. DCs, AC, AB, damage, called shot DC, etc. I believe Cata's main objection is that he thinks the 'all else being equal' is never true, and in fact people overcompensate in other areas to make up for it. I'm dubious of that, but I agree things aren't equal. This caveat was clearly made by Gand in his first sentence. My main, and really only, objection was in the dragging part of his post. I've never denied and will never try to that an extra +4 to stats will make a toon more effective. Cata

Either some other tweak, or removing the speed penalty, would probably be the best solution. I'm open to suggestions. a) CON +4 ...instead of +2, to make Mighty Rage easier to obtain b) Regeneration +10 ...like a better version of Troll. c) Epic Skill Focus: Intimidate ...to improve Mighty Rage DC d) Epic Damage Reduction III (9/-) ...i figured this kinda goes with the slow, stupid but unstoppable juggernaut-like image of the Half-Ogre, and is sort of like a lesser version of Juggernaut's crit damage reduction. e) EDR I (3/-) , Regen +5, Skill Focus: Intimidate ...A less exciting but all round useful set of additions.

you would say, with legs that long, an ogre would certainly be moving about faster than the average dwarf... at least not slower.
that said, if there are ever going to be race upgraders (as in: you can upgrade your character to UR/BUR quality if you use a certain item - as discussed a while ago in a different topic), the logical upgrade for HO is HO. (Half-Ogre and Half-Orthon respectively) (just an idea..)
