That was a blast last night. We turned the lowbie quests into mini runs in themselves. Rolled up new monk, level 1, bought two standard goads and a couple of cure light wounds pots and I was off to secure this lever for Cogs. After dealing with a few rats on the way and turning over some useful loot, we found something that was so weird it had to be the lever he was looking for. As I grabbed the lever a rat hit me with disease and lowered my con. Down to 2hp I ran for the door (my evil nature meant think about myself first and abandon Hack to the rats). A rat followed me out the door and knocked me down to -3hp. Too weak to stand and realising I left my best possible saviour surrounded by rats, I thought it was all over. But who should coming running over like a knight in shining armour? The Madman!?!?! He Chuck Norris kicked the living daylight out of the rat, I naturally healed to provide Cogs with his lever and collect my reward. The madman is now the new hero and posterboy of R-HC- (most appropriate), and Hack........ well, I'm sure he forgives me. Must talk to that madman about a crown someday........

Hah! That's awesome, Tele! This style of play is very appealing to me, for exactly that sort of stuff. It also makes it more appealing to play the less-than-ideal sub-races because average lifespan is so low. I'm gonna make a new R-HC- toon, probably a simple orc fighter or something. As for randomization, I'm of mixed feelings. I love randomizing stuff for variety and the whole slot machine feel. However, it can be a source of lots of money. So, how about this? When you choose to randomize an item, if you can't use it right away (because the level cap was increased), then it get tossed in the nearest trashcan (or fire beetle dung pile). I think I'll start with that. Question: Is R-HC- in-character play? Or is it as "in-character" as most table top sessions get? - Niilo

Yeah, subrace doesnt matter much. The build doesnt even have to be sound or designed to be maxed at 60. You can really have some fun experimental builds.
It's not about powerlevelling to 40 or 60 as fast as possible. It's about enjoying your toon at any level of the game. Playing it realistically just like you would if you were that character starting out your adventuring.
It doesnt matter if it takes an hour to kill the Half Orc Bandit instead of rushing him in 5 mins. It's about enjoying the trip and becoming inventive with the resources you get along the way.
With different types of loot popping up on different attempts, even these trivial runs become different each time.
Regarding randomizing, I agree in principle with what you say Nilo. If a robe wearer is randomizing heavy plate, what is it for? The chance of more gold pure and simple. Not really realistic or for the right reason.
I enjoy every moment I play in any game this way. Even the stupid deaths.
Also keen for doing themed parties too. We did pixies a while back. Baard and I tried to get goblins going. Dwarves, Trolls, different coloured xDDs, whatever. I'm in.

I'd love to do something like this. A band of goblins sounds fun I've wished this before, but I'm super-wishing it now: I wish I had more time to play... - Niilo

Wow. I can't wait to see the rules for UR-HC and BUR-HC. No looting? No resting? No leveling-up? Could be pretty intense! -WSCraft We used to have an informal iron man competition on another pw I played for a time. The challenge was to create the most useless build and take it to the hardest areas while being of full use to the party (that doesn't include being a rez monkey). The idea is to take feats and abilities that are of no use to the character but that overall enhance the build. So like a gnome with greatsword focus weaponmaster would not qualify, but a half-orc sorcerer with all battle feats might..

I noticed that you started with the bifurcation lever task. Do you skip the tasks that have absolutely no risk to them (e.g., buying stuff from stores, tea cup from the Wyrm)? I'd assume yes, since I can't see that making sense in PnP.

Oh, and what do you think of teleporting to the party leader? I tend to realism, and would say no, but would be willing to make exceptions for myself I'm sure.
I've got my goblin conjurer ready to adventure. I was just going to create the toon and do something else, but now I can't resist.

Hah! Tele and I just had a grand time adventuring with our goblin wizards, running from boars and talking smack about the tall people. After dominating the rats, beetles and bats, we returned the lever, flowers, and even ice crystal for some well-deserved prestige. Feeling cocky, we decided to try our luck at killing half an orc, well, the half-orc bandit to be precise. And kill him we did. Unfortunately, outside the cave we ran into a bit of trouble and Yoda was killed. Fizzlegrub ran as fast as his scrawny little legs could go, all the way to the item shop in town. He sold all the loot they found (good thing he was the one carrying their only magic bag) in order to buy a single Raise Dead scroll. Then he ran back. His floating eye, Stare-Face, and summoned boar were lending him cover has he snuck toward the body of Yoda. However, an enraged boar came out of nowhere and charged Fizz (must have smelled the boar's head in his backpack). Fizz lost his composure and ran to Yoda's body, only to be surrounded and killed by more half-an-orcs as he frantically read the scroll (stupid thing was written in human speak). Thanks, Tele. That was a lot of fun. - Niilo

Yep, a good 2hrs or so adventuring. Ending pretty much the same way my old PnP games used to. Still, it was a typical goblinesque rescue plan (or lack of).
Think those new despawn rules through a spanner in our works.
Have a new goblin ranger ready to go, with favoured enemy goblin of all things. I feel like heading north of town.
Thanks for the shenanigans and goblin speak.
