With the dawn of the new Higher Ground project on the horizon, the DM team made a big decision this past Sunday to keep the old world of PoA fresh, and competitive. For the first time in our history, we have purged the player Server Vault.
There are quite a few reasons we did this: the vault was astronomical in size (well over 200 MBs in players, Unique 3000+ logins), database files were getting to be very large on their own (Particularly the Persistent Item Storage database, oy vey!), and the general lag that has seemed to be building on the server of late.
The economy had gotten completely blown out of proportion, and users were becoming way too rich for our blood. Not to mention, basically every item was available for purchase in stores, making it so that users could basically have whatever they wanted.
Now, we are adding in a new script to PoA, where items are randomly dropped based of percentages by bosses and dragons. This means, a vast amount of items are being spread out over the entire world, making it a necessity for players to explore the many different areas and locations in the module.
The vault purge promises a new world to come up from the ashes of our fallen characters. Love us or hate us for doing it: the purge is a necessary process that was long over due.
*Note: old thread deleted. This thread is NOT intended to become a flame war, rather an explanation of the thought process the DM team had in coming to this decision. For anyone who does not agree with our choice: I give you our apologies.
