Well consider this....
It is not just about being solid. We also need to showcase mod features in these builds. You can utilize harper scout boots and make up the ac loss with a number of spells and items. The player gets more attack and gets access to heal/restore pots and the like. Maybe even some points into UMD. I haven't tried to make the above work but my gut feeling is that it is possible. In the end the character is a lot more exciting to play and that excited player ends up wanting to play the mod more.
Anyhow, it is your choice. I think it would be worthwhile for you to do so if you can make it work. The contest is technically over but I can still reward you for a significant contribution to this part of the forums if the work is up to snuff.

Hmm. I'm going to have to disagree with a lot of this. Not that you are wrong per se, just that I disagree. I think this mod is a showcase in and of itself. Even just getting dragged through it you can see the level of workmanship involved, the amount of lore and backstory if you choose to read it, the mechanics, architecture and functionality. The simtools commands alone have many features and commands that should be a staple of any multiplayer game today but, sadly, are often not. Heck, in this mod you can hop servers at will! No 25$ charge! Learning the basic mechanics of HG, the physics, threat, simtools, chat commands, areas, damages, resists, imms, mobs, items etc etc is a pretty massive undertaking. There is a huge learning curve here that is matched in very few other games. In fact the only one that comes immediately to mind is Eve. This build is made simple on purpose. Easy to level, gear, learn and maintain so that you have less to keep track of as you learn the things that will be useful for all that stuff I listed above. I'm a pretty hardcore gamer and I'm not ashamed at all to admit that it took me months of constant play to get even semi comfortable with the mod and what it had to offer. For a new player who's only played something like warcraft or console RPGs, this game is a pretty big step up on the learning curve. I want a new player to have a solid, simple and lightweight (but sturdy!) platform to ride on as they climb the learning curve. I actually considered making a more offensive open sub build. Maybe even with HS. The problem is that without at least a decent maze secret or UR sub HS is difficult to make work on many classes. Monk/HS is a terrible combo as they are both T2 AB classes. Ideally you splash at least 4 levels of T1 to offset this. This gets extremely complicated on an open sub, especially when you have to take crossclass skills, 2 feats and are stretched to the limit on stat points. The shadow shield pots are nice, and I'm the first in line at the GR pot tap, but dont forget that while for us it's a cheap investment, for a newer player 1 mil a stack and 10k xp is expensive! And they go so fast Not to sound facetious, but you should try to get HS in this build and see how it begins to fall apart. I agree that no UMD stings a bit, the only real meaningful loss is no GS/BBoD scrolls, which can be circumvented at least partially with a chain of solidarity. Also, in mid-deep hells, as a new player dying and being rezzed and having to mess around with items to boost your AC because of non moliated HS boots is frantic and often times frustrating and can lead to chain deaths. (i know, I was one such player) I think you underestimate how exciting this mod is all by itself, especially when you're in a group and learning. This place has a pretty killer community and that's one of the main reasons people will keep coming back. With so much to learn and see, better racebooks and items to earn and build theorycraft to master there are plenty of reasons to be excited. I have made my choices for this build Trying to add splash classes or HS would change it from what it is, and would also impact the survivability and stat/skill spread, which is already at what I consider "the minimums". I'll let this build, and the mod, speak for themselves. And not that I don't appreciate it, but I think it'd be just a tad unfair to everyone else that really put in the effort on their builds if I changed this build, or made a new one and got credit for the contest. Disagreements aside I do appreciate the attention you have given this build, and to the contest and build forum in general. It's alot of work and it is very much appreciated.
