Its supposed to do CL 3/2 D20 fire damage but is only doing ~160-230 fire damage on a 12 sorc/3paladin/25 RDD BFM. It seems like its only taking sorc levels into account.

I'm wondering if it will be worth casting even fixed with the large risk it poses of crashing party members.

Tell them to replace their hellball VFX. Just put it in your override folder.

OK, played around with this a bit, but it is and is not what I was actually looking for.
It used to be that this mod changed the Hellball to a plain old fireball animation with the Hellball spell effects still in play. Now, it does the Hellball spin in, but doesn't have the blossom. Is the old "just fireball" version still around?

I've always assumed the spin in is a tactically significant part of hellball. Casting it on yourself skips it, so it's quicker if used while you're on the frontlines.
I could be wrong!
