I've now just tried playing on another server and it seems higher ground has completely broken my game causing it's custom spells to be in the server etc...
I removed the cep files and overrides and now none of my spells have descriptions.

Don't know why on earth you would play another mod after playing on HG.
But, you would need to re-install all CEP files. Only delete the files from HG Enhanced.

I don't really understand your problem. All official HG content is in hak paks, and those are only applied when a module requests them. Unless of course the server you wanted to join wants a different version of the CEP.
What you described sounds more like a problem with custom content in the override folder.

You should just be able to replace the cep2_custom.hak file with the base one distributed with the CEP. You will then no longer see the HG Enhanced descriptions, etc.
