I've noticed that many mobs have soak. Melee classes and AA's have availability of buffs/store-purchased/looted weapons with attack bonuses sufficient for overcoming soak in areas that they must venture. Gnomish Inventors and other crossbow wielders lack appropriate weapons from lvl 23 to mid 40s. The Crossbow of the Seer, NWN standard weapon, is Atk bonus +8. The next available Heavy Crossbow is a Uro drop. I also note that the Hvy Crossbows available in LL are in no way "special" to GIs. I was in the toolset trying to figure out a way to specify gnomish inventor. I came up with Race restriction: Gnome; Class restriction wizard; Class restriction Rogue - so that either a gnome rogue or gnome wizard can use. Here are the item / properties / locations that I would suggest:
(All are Heavy Crossbows with the above usage restrictions)
1. Gnomish Apprentice / Atk +4, bonus feat point blank shot, Mighty +3, Massive Criticals ( 2d4 Damage) / Co-located with tool belt (down the hole - avoiding spoilers)
2. Elite Inventors Crossbow / Ability bonus Dex +2, Str +2, Atk +10, bonus feat point blank shot, Mighty +5 / sold at Finely Crafted Imports (nearly identical to the Elite Archer Bow offered there)
3. Drowbane / Ability bonus Dex +2, Atk +13, Atk vs Elf +15, bonus feat point blank shot / Create and add a duergar lord to the duergar area - drop loot -or- add it to a barrel vic the existing scythe
4. Dragon Stitch / Atk +14, bonus feat point blank shot, massive criticals (2d8 Damage), mighty +7, Skill bonus Craft Trap +5, Skill bonus Set Trap +5 / Add to mother of dragons floor plate loot.
5. Perferatornator / Atk +16, bonus feat point blank shot, massive criticals (2d12 Damage), mighty +9, Craft Armor +20, Craft Weapon +20 / Add to Toy Makers weapon table.
6. Zodwright Spannerspackle's Masterpiece / Atk +17, bonus feat point blank shot, massive criticals (2d12 Damage), Mighty +11, Shield AC +6 / some 55+ area that needs some visitors
These crossbows should fill the gaps and provide GI specific weaponry. There's probably room for a +17 weapon as well.
I would also propose 2 ego augs:
1. "Prodigious" Doubles the amount of bombs per rest.
2. "Lancinating" Keens Heavy Crossbow.
(All are Heavy Crossbows with the above usage restrictions)
