Hey guys,
I've been reading through the Windows 7 threads here and some others via google and still can't seem to fix this one. Anytime I try to login to a game, NWN simply crashes without any error message and I end up back at my desktop. Here is what I can do:
1. Start ARF2 and fully patch 2. Join a server 3. Login to my account 4. Select a character or create a new character (start to finish)
That's it. Once I press 'Play' from the character selection screen, NWN crashes back to the desktop with no error message and I've confirmed this happens on multiple characters, not just one. Here is what I have done to try and fix this:
1. Set nwmain.exe compatibility properties to always run as an administrator and run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 3. Prior to doing this, I could not get into the game at all, this step allows me to login, view my characters and create new ones. 2. Same thing for nwn.exe and arf.exe. These two steps did not resolve anything. 3. Tried to re-patch via arf.exe and confirmed everything is 'OK' and up to date.
Any ideas? Am I missing something easy? Please let me know and thanks in advance for the help!

have you updated your graphic drivers? if not, do it, if yes, see if you can roll back

have you updated your graphic drivers? if not, do it, if yes, see if you can roll back Just checked both video and audio drivers: 1. Device Manager -> Display Adapters -> AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series -> Update Driver Software -> Search Automatically and confirmed that driver is up to date. 2. Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers -> AMD High Definition Audio Device & VIA High Definition Audio -> Update Driver Software -> Search Automatically and confirmed drivers are up to date. I don't know the last time they would have been updated, but this is a pretty new (about a month old) machine that hasn't run NWN before. As a result, not sure what I would be rolling back to. I also found this thread: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/187/index/3341490/1Per the details there, I uninstalled and re-installed directly into the C:\ directory and re-updated via ARF2 and am still having the same problems. Appreciate the help!

Do the crashes only happen for multiplayer games or also for singleplayer games?
I know that immediately after clicking play the first log entry is written to the log files (logs/nwclientLog?.txt). Do you have sufficient permission to write to that location, i.e. do you start NWN with administrator rights?

Do the crashes only happen for multiplayer games or also for singleplayer games? After some testing, multiplayer via ARF2 only. I can successfully enter a single player game via the nwmain.exe client Single Player and I can navigate to the Higher Ground servers via the nwmain.exe client Multiplayer and access my characters but then receive a 'CD Key Authentication Denied' error. I'm now thinking this is the root cause. I installed this from GOG and replaced the default nwncdkey.ini file with the new one they sent to me, but that is also the same as the one on my laptop I used to use to play. Do I need to do something to my laptop version (i.e. uninstall) to get this to work? I know that immediately after clicking play the first log entry is written to the log files (logs/nwclientLog?.txt). Do you have sufficient permission to write to that location, i.e. do you start NWN with administrator rights? Confirming I am starting NWN with administrator rights, let me know if there's anything else I need to do to ensure permissions to write to that location. Thanks!

Try using HGX and if that doesn't fix the problem see if u can turn off shiny water, etc see if that helps.
I doubt it is that simple but u never know.

I actually recommend not using HGX until you managed to get NWN running. It's much harder to track problems if you don't know which software is causing them.

Is the CD Key Authentication Denied error just something that's related to HG? I vaguely recall having this issue before...I'll go see if I can track it down.
