I just got a new laptop and I can not seem to get nwn to run smooth. I can manage to log on but it acts like gfx lag. I even get lag before I log on to hg. It runs ok then pauses for a sec and then runs then pauses then runs ext.... Some times it seems to run sooth for a little while but doesn't last long. I set all the gfx settings to low and turned off every thing I can in game video settings. Resolution is same as my desktop 1366x768. I am running AMD A10 laptop with built in gfx. Video is AMD Radeon HD 7660 G. Windows 7 with direct x 11. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you update your graphics drivers on the card manufacturer's website? Going to the laptop manufacturer's website will often yield older drivers, and the newest ones should work fairly well with nwnx.

When I get the periodic pausing, it's normally from something running in the background. Most of the time it's an anti-virus, but it could be driver related (pain to track down) or another app. I would get process explorer (sysinternals, now owned by msft) which can let you track the CPU/IO/disk/network usage by process and thread. The CPU history column, with historical graph, is key. -G

I once had this type of problem, try disabling all sound within NWN (you can re-enable later, trying different options). There used to be a bug with some sound drivers, this may have been long fixed, but it is worth a quick test.

Another problem I had was the network lag caused by the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, which is enabled by default(even if media player isn't running) and creates loads of network lag.

Updating the video card drivers seems to have fixed the problem. Will have more time to test it on a run later. Thanks to all those who helped me.

Radeon range of graphics cards are not good for NWN seems they have a penchant for not keeping their updates to scratch once your type of radeon card is a year old. I know its a laptop but you should consider getting your next lappy with a GE-Force or Nvidia card/chip instead they are more supportive of their products even of those that would be considered legacy by ATi.
