Frustration 101 When I try to start the program, I get the first screen and then try to press the PLAY tab. As NW Loader starts up the game crashes and a get an NWN has encountered a problem and needs to close message. I was getting these messages everytime I would exit the game, but now I can't even get into the game. When I load the game through DM Client, the NW Loader works and I can get to the servers (no password though, sigh).
Anyone have any ideas what is causing me the problems? I was getting in a few weeks ago, but not now.

I have heard through other mods that this is an increasing issue since gamespy stopped listing games. Have you first tried using the direct connection feature ? I believe there is a list of HG server IP addresses to found, try each of those starting with HuB servers. As when in game you can then !portal to another.
The other is to download a new laucher like ARF2 here on HG.

Thanks will look into ARF2. Can't even get to the screen for direct connect, once I hit Play NWN croaks. What I find interesting is that I can load NWN in DM mode, not Play mode. Do you think eliminating gamespy from the ini files would be worth a try? Is it simply changing enabled=0 instead of 1 or should I remove the whole line? Any other text that should be removed (such as Game Type=9)

Have you tried just running nwmain.exe instead of nwloader?(I use acaos' modified executable "nwmain-169-hg.exe" but it should be the same)
[edit] Just tried using nwloader(first time in years) and it crashed to desktop on me too...so yeah, try running nwmain.exe, never had a problem with it.

yes, nwnmain is what crashes. I can't find afr2 anywhere to download it, any suggestions or where Acaos' version can be found?

I should clarify, I am using the stock NWN, when I press play on NWN it goes to NWNmain and the message is that the nwnloader is trying to load the game and it crashes. Running nwnmain simply crashes

nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=259NDubyaConfig lets you bypass movies and set your sound driver easily plus a few other things...I thought it might be the startup movies that might be crashing your game, but who knows? Another idea is to use nwconfig.exe, select "Change", then "Scan" to refresh your driver settings for nwn...i have to use it when I swap my hard drive after my computer crashes, or when I have to change sound cards/video cards. Don't forget to change your settings again after scanning...it will reset the graphics settings to full automatically

I had already tried the changes to the config file and loaded the NDubyaConfig file, no go. (sigh)

If nothing else work you can try to trace the problem by using windows debugger/logger to output the actual error that application causes.
