Hey all, I haven't played on HG much in the last year, but hey you know how it goes, you get bored with all the new fancy games and you load up NWN and of course your first stop is HG! Anyways, I recently reinstalled NWN on my new pc, and found to my surprise that NWN actually runs laggier / choppier, than it did on my (7 yr) old pc. So i'm trying to figure out wth is going on. I've tried messing with the graphics settings i.e. low and high, but it seems to run exactly the same no matter what settings I have on. The main annoyance is the game seems to stutter. For example when walking (or watching NPCs walking) like every second or maybe 3/4 of a second I see a little visual stutter. I rolled a new toon and beetle or koutao spawns on the way to the water ring was causing me to drop down to a very low FPS, I would guess maybe 5 fps or something silly like that. The funny thing is that my new pc is like at least 2x possibly more powerful / fast than my old pc. I never got this problem on my old pc. Yes, huge as desert spawns would lag my pc out (as it did to everyone it seems), but all of the lowbie areas I never had any problems with lag from spawns or low fps, and I definitely did not have this wierd and incredibly annoying stutter!
My current system: i3 3.2 ghz dual core, asus p8z77-m, 16 gigs of kingston hyper x ram, radeon HD 7850, windows 7 home premium.
A few things I read and did -- I installed NWN outside of the program files (x86) directory as instructed (it's on D:\NWN or something). I added "Max memory=64" to the nwn.ini as I discovered was supposedly a good idea and possible way to reduce spawn lag. I of course installed all the updates 1.69, hg, cep, and used ARF2 to update everything.
Oh yeah, that reminds me another couple problems I am having that make no sense to me --- when I create a new character, and I get to the "customize" part where you choose what your character looks like -- there is no character model at all. Don't know if that is related at all to the above problem, but I know for a fact I installed everything and patched everything exactly per instructions, and ARF2 seems to think everything is up to date. I already discovered that clicking one of the boxes in the graphics settings (something like environment maps on textures?) causes my character ingame to become invisible. Unchecked that of course. So I can see my character models (and all models) in game, but not in character creation, wierd huh?
My third strange problem is that when I used to play NWN on my old pc, I could see servers listed in the game lobby, but now, no games show in the lobby (not that I ever used any of em, always HG!!). I had to use direct connect to connect (that works at least). Also btw the ARF2 program has a connect button, but that doesn't work. Now I do always (and always have) gotten the message "master server down", but even though I always got that message before, I still was able to see other servers running, including of course HG. When I first ran NWN my firewall asked me if NWN had permission and of course I clicked yes, so I'm assuming it's not my firewall. But maybe it is? All my other games only ask for firewall permission once though, and then always connect to master servers with no problems.
Long post I know, but mmmm I'm tripping out on why i have all these wierd problems and have no clue how to fix em.
