Don't forget the double aoe/party kickback (detonating hamatulas and machines hurts like hell). It's still fun for the huge hp Storm of Flames builds.

I traded that for improved combat casting. It also packs the uber wing buffet (hence fun builds instead of cata's build).
Reggardless detonate's kickback issues are a problem (I would suggest for it to cause kickback on foes instead of the party without triggering further kickback)
Bonus points for higher BAB and str mod on such build to help with detonate.

To summarize so far: Drawbacks 1. Touch attack/close range 2. AB and Conceal check vs. touch attack 3. Mega kick back to whole party on success vs. certain monsters (hamatula, machines, anything that has normally KB when hit) 4. On success area Fire damage heals enemies that heal on fire nearby/causes kb to caster from other KB monster nearby
The spell needs redesigned. It's level 9 and supposed to be a top level kill spell.
I propose: 1. Ignores conceal 2. Give it the same range as disintegrate 3. No area KB from KB monsters 4. Make the fire damage from explosion something exotic, like "internal" damage to prevent heal

There's already dragonfire dmg in the module (con arti meh dmg), that'd work for bfm only, normal mages keep fire. Tbh the AoE kb is the fun part would be sad seeing it gone ;( It's just the conceal check very lame compared to similar spells, for a lvl 9. P.S. Improved Combat Casting P.P.S. Ab for touch attacks

There is only one reason to use it right now; namely, as an alternative to disintegrate for non-transmutation based arcanes. Unfortunately it's laughably bad since you can only use it on no-conceal, no-party kb mobs that aren't far away. Which eliminates things like machines, fungus, hamatula, spiniarch for one or more of the above reason(s).
