When I came back I installed a Mumble server on my VPS, so I could voice communicate for HG without dealing with the headache of skype's lack of push to talk, and without having to give away the details of my WoW guild's Ventrilo server (not owned by me). I did share the details in my introduction post, but it seems the server hasn't gotten much activity other than a few Sheinja and Raj,
To reiterate, the server is open to the public, and there are multiple channels set up if people want to do different runs at the same time. Users can also create temporary custom channels within the HG tree. I can also make custom channels upon request, with custom settings like user/guild restriction as well.

Due to some routing issues I'm having my VPS moved to a different datacenter. I will update address/port tomorrow when I have everything set up again.

Server is back up. New address is thyme.whatbox.ca, and the new port is 60773. It will require accepting a new certificate to connect.

Glad to see others enjoying mumble.. have used it for years. Have tried many others over the years, and even had my own custom TS server with a custom coded front end and admin GUI written in python. Never got hacked again after that After discovering mumble have never looked back. skype sux .. was designed to make phone calls, is a resource hog and does not play well with others. mumble for the win..

Host is going to be changing private keys for all servers at some time in the near future as a result of the heartbleed exploit. Mumble will probably be affected until I notice the issue, and fix it.

Added the server to my mumble, but no I never used this one yet. Most times I use skype (not that it is a really good option, but most have it and you can quickly setup a conference call), or teamspeak (my personal favorite).

I'm still maintaining this Mumble server for other friend circles and personal communication, and plan to do so in the foreseeable future as the bandwidth/resource usage is negligible. I still monitor this forum's RSS feed, but have been keeping busy with real life + other games, and any time I check the webdash there hasn't been a run announcement for hours.
Skype is quite annoying to me. The linux client is ridiculously unstable and a resource hog, and has features that have buttons, but don't do anything because they have been broken for years. Combined with no API for 3rd party clients, and the constant backdoor to recording/monitoring of conversations, I prefer to use it as little as possible. Regrettably that is a goal mired by the self-fulfilling prophecy that all my contacts won't leave an 'established' network because none of their contacts will leave it. Has Skype even gotten a proper push-to-talk button yet?

I have used skype for over 3 years now, Pretty much just for the game, and with a few exceptions have had no probs with it. But i have heard of others having probs- connection, etc. I run linux as well. As for the "push button" to talk- i don't use this either, my microphone is on the desk next to my monitor so it is hands free, and no "heavy breathing" etc. into a headset.
A friend of mine hooked mumble up for me ( although i have linux, i am computer illiterate- ), but having no problems with the set-up i have i see no need in "fixing what aint broke". If the circle of pals i run with were having major issues with skype i would definetly suggest this to them tough.
