Hi....
So its been about 5 years since I was last here. I was browsing GOG and saw NWN listed.... then I was looking at screenshots somewhere and saw a link that referenced this place. I was pleasantly surprised to see it still exists.
So now I guess my goal is to reconnect and try playing some good ol NWN again. But I think I need some help. Its been ages and I don't really know what all I have to do. I understand the game is heavily modified and I probably need to downloads some patches... but first I don't even see HG POA listed (or anyone for that matter) using the built in gamespy server thingy.
I'm guessing after so many years that something has changed and there is another method to connect now ?
**EDIT : I did some wikki reading... found some info. Probably enough to get updated. Also found some IPs so I could direct connect.... I tried it just a moment ago to see if it would work and I got an error that my CD KEY would not authenticate. Not sure how to fix this... my CD key is for NWN Diamond... an old retail box version and should work. I have no problem connecting/authenticating my "Infinate Dungeons" premium module. Any ideas ? Also... I know my character vault is tied to the keys... sure hope I can access my old account.... though I guess it wouldn't be too horrible to start over I do need to re-learn everything.

If you got NWN from GOG.com go to their help page for the game - there's an option to request a multiplayer CD key. That should fix your CD key authentification issue. Follow this link for information about how to get (re-)started on Higher Ground: wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Getting_StartedFrom there you should be able to find this link, which has information about the various additional downloads you'll need: wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Installation_GuideIf you can find your old CD Key, you shouldn't have problem accessing your old characters and bank chests. If you aren't able to find them, Funky can transfer your character vault and bankchests/wallet to the CD Key you get from GOG.com, but it's better to look for your original CD Keys first. Hope that helps.

And gamespy does no longer work. They shut down the servers for alot of old games and the master authentication server for nwn as well. You can either use arf2 to connect to the servers or edit your nwnplayer.ini file (found in the nwn folder) and add under
[Favorites Page] Server0=209.99.103.44:5121 Server1=209.99.103.44:5131 Server2=209.99.103.44:5141 Server3=209.99.103.44:5132 Server4=209.99.103.44:5133 Server5=209.99.103.44:5134 Server6=209.99.103.44:5135 Server7=209.99.103.44:5142 Server8=209.99.103.44:5143 Server9=209.99.103.44:5144 Server10=209.99.103.44:5145 Server11=209.99.103.44:5120
With that you will find the servers in your favorites tab ingame.

Thanks for the info. Later today I'll d/l CEP, HGX and have another attempt at connecting.
The version I have installed btw is NWN Platinum.... same old box version I've had for ages... there are 3 CD Keys for it in my manual... not sure why HG doesn't like them but to be fair I tried connecting before being all patched up... so I'll get that done first and see if it makes a difference.
Also.. I left the password field blank... maybe I need to use one... I forget but I may have added one with the scry thingy, shouldn't be too hard to figure out. If I run into much more trouble I'll PM funky and see if he can assist.

Welcome Back, Dimex! Here is a install that worked for me: - Installed Diamond NWN from GOG. That includes the 1.69 Critical Rebuild. If you use another install, I would run that file after the NWN install (NWN + both expansions). English install. - Then: Installed CEP 2.3 (Hak into HAK, tlk into tlk). I've downloaded that from Werehound Silverfang (werehound) Signature link - Then: ARF2 download and Run: dl.hgweb.org/arf/arf2.zip * Important: Mark option in ARF2 for modified exe and HG enhanced - Changed in the nwn.ini: [Display Options] AllowWindowedMode=1 - Changed in the nwnplayer.ini: [Game Options] ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1 That worked for me. I can zooooom.

I used arf2 and everything is up to date. But when I direct connect my vault is not there and I made a new test char and tried to connect and still get CD KEY DENIED.
I verified in my game folder that NWNCDKEY.INI is there and has the 3 keys in it, the keys are valid... right out of my manual. This is probably as far as i can go without 'divine intervention'.

Not sure if this helps, but if you wanna go ahead and try to log in whenever you see this, I can at least tell you what error message I get as a result of your login attempt. Not sure if it'll be any use to you, but it might help Funky to troubleshoot it.

Are you still using the same log name? If you have changed log names, then your CD keys will not work. They will still be tied to an older log name.

That's a good point, it could be something as simple as a slight error in your playername.

Well this pc is newer... since i last connected was 5 yrs ago. But its a fresh install... and i never change names of files.
I do have own a few box sets.... mine, my daughters and I think my original. I think I have regular NWN, diamond and platinum. Looks like diamond is installed, I think I'll dig up the platinum keys and try those, maybe my account is tied to those ?

If you can start your old PC, the you could look into the old nwnplayer.ini. There, under [Profile] is your playername and password saved. However, I'm confident that otherwise Funky will get you on.

HEY ! PARTIAL SUCCESS !! We're getting there. I switched my CD Keys to the ones in my platinum user manual and tried to login. The user vault still showed just that 1 test fighter that I made. However I tried to connect and it accepted the connection this time. I took the boat journey and did some more testing.... and found that 1. Used scry and verified that I have access to my subraces (5x secret 7x UR and 1 BUR) 2. Used wallet and I can see I have 339,262,819 gold 'banked' 3. Used the bank chests and looked at a few... I have quite the list of them and the contents do seem to be intact. The only thing missing is my actual characters..... OK... so we're this far.... any ideas on what I do now. PS: Thanks for all the help thus far !

Again, you might not be using your original player name. If you have access to your bankchests and wallet then you have the right CD key, but the characters should be tied to your player name.

Again, you might not be using your original player name. If you have access to your bankchests and wallet then you have the right CD key, but the characters should be tied to your player name. Ah OK. So I have to figure out my old player name. Hrm. I would have figured it would be Diemex. I'll try a few possibilities then, maybe I can figure this out on my own. V I C T O R Y !!!!! I Have successfully logged in with my original username and have access to all my characters again ! Can you believe it was just 1 letter.... case sensitive it seems "Diemex" <> "diemex" ah well. So now I got 5 years of changes to catch up on lol.... I think first thing I should do is plan a quick easy build... and run it to 40 just to relearn the basics and see what new changes exist. (Have to read wikki to help with the build planning as I'm sure lots more has changed with regard to skill effects and such) Thanks for helping me get back in guys ! See you on the other side ! ** another edit ** ARF2 seems to have everything in order.... and the scry says I am running HG Enhanced.... and there is no red fog. But I dont see any special HAK files so I'm dubious as to if I have HGE or not. How can I test this ? Also.... what version is latest ? On forums it says 18.... wikki links to 24... but another area of wikki links to 27....
