Hi. Don't know if anyone remembers Black Spike (Soul*, Short*, etc). I helped run the Eternal Order guild, way back before those Damn Red Wizards got involved! Are they still going?
I'm on new account, new CD keys, new everything, so unless I can somehow recover my old account, I'm starting from scratch.
Just thought I'd pop in, say HI, see how you've been looking after the place.
As I've lost all my old log-ins, I shall be Player: Black Spike. Current Character: Grunty McGruntFace. Hopefully I'll get back to grips with things, and maybe rebuild an Arcane Archer!

Thanks fro welcome.
I've started running a couple of new toons around and run into some issues ...
The low level quests from the Docks (tea cup, quill, etc): 1) How important are they to do? 2) How do I use !search ? I'm looking for quill, but keep getting "ERROR. Target: None" when I try to !search the feather-pole ...
I'm sure I'll have more newbie-questions later, if anyone can help.
Is there a "No Spoilers In Forum" Rule? If so, hints and advice are fine.

Next Question: Good Arcane Archer Build: 1) Is there one? 2) Do I need a secret-subrace, or BUR items to make it viable? Can it be done with newbie stuff? 3) Can it solo low-mid level areas?

Low level quests just give you an easier way of getting exp when there are few players around to party with, quite a lot of them are in the areas for the low level accomplishments so you can pick these up at the same time as getting all of them gives a very handy 5% experience bonus post level 40, check HGwiki for full information. You should just use the command targeter you get when you use !search the first time and point it at the object or area you want to search to get the item (some of the areas are quite specific), if you have already gone past the quest you obviously won't get the item. If you want to look for spoilers HGwiki is also your friend or ask via the !newbie message in game. I'm not going to post about Arcane Archers as it will almost certainly end up in a flame war but if you follow one of the builds here wiki.hgweb.org/wiki/Builds#Arcane_Archer it will give you what you need. And I do remember you, welcome back to HG

Hey chainlink! Definitely a name I remember! Thanks for the tips. I'll see if I can be bothered running all those errands! Might help while I'm soloing to get myself back in the swing of things! Not sure what character to build up yet. I always liked Arcane Archers, but think they work best in a party (as do assassins, one of my other favourites). Will have a think what I can solo, but still use well in a higher level party (Mind, I'll probably be recreating if I get some subrace books )

Do you have any characters from your past hanging around as you can now reincarnate them and possibly upgrade the subraces if you can get the required books or items? Possible alternate to an AA is a Zen ranger although the damage potential is less the ability to pwn stuff at long range is fun.

I don't (currently) have access to my old account (I'm on new CD Keys from GOG). But I may see if I can dig out my old disks, and ask nicely if I can get my old account back

Funky can give you access to your old account if you give him the account name

Not sure I can remember what name I had ... I shall see what I can come up with - don't want to send him on a wild goose chase!

If you have some level 50 characters lurking around on your old account I can provide you with UR books of most kinds to upgrade them with, might even be able to do it for a BUR race if you have a 60 of the right build type.

Thanks for the offer. I'll have a think if I want Funky to revive my account (assuming I can find the CD keys!). I might just leave it, and start over. I'm hopefully bringing a n00b with me, so progressing together will be fun (rather than me dragging her along).
Hmmm ... next stupid questions? Soloing AA - can I avoid AoO? Or do I need to buy loads of Summon scrolls?

You won't need to find the CDkeys for your original account as this can be attached to your new one. You should have a decent enough ac to be able to effectively ignore Aoo especially before legendary level if you are a dex based character, summon scrolls are awesome for low level characters although they fade into insignificance after about level 10, BBoD scrolls are always useful though.

OK, I now have my old characters back! (Thanks sabregirl!). I have the gear the characters are carrying, but no bank items (yet ...) I can't remember what all my stuff does, and what i need to use! I might take Spike of Vengeance (Arcane Archer) out on some 'soft' runs, to get back in the swing of things, but will mainly be concentrating on building up a new character, along with a friend. If anyone from ER is around, give me a shout!

Question: Randomising loots. What is this? I get the concept that one can randomly change the properties on items (Random Drops, not Set Loot). How is this done? Some SIMtool command? Does it cost anything? Can an item be randomised more than once? Is there a way of bilk-randomising?
