Am looking to be able to make my own maps and review character portraits I have collected over the years formerly when using XP operating system I used Print Artist 4, but this failed to work when upgraded to Win7 .. So I bought Adobe elements 11 and dispite all efforts of various plugin's and such I still can not get this to view/open targa(tga.) file format that NWN uses...
So am considering buying Print Artist 25 gold or platinum version but am concerned that either of these versions have dropped support to targa(tga.) file format... I have tried over this last week to get specific details on supported file formats but could not find this information... So am asking here if any player or admin can confirm that these latest editions of Print Artist at least still allow one to view targa file format and if editting (although not important) is possible with either of these products...

Hey Sabre. Hey Sapphire, I guess the only way to know for sure would be to contact the company so I sent them a ticket requesting for a list of supported formats. Meanwhile I found some info on other programs that work. A simple one would be Irfanview and for more advanced editing use Gimp. Both are open software and for free to use. EDIT: Another useful program would be paint.net. Also freeware.

LOL ... Might sound similiar but am not Sabre .. Anyway thanks for the input on this matter prehaps you can let me know if the Print Artist people respond with a list of supported file formats... Had a look at your suggested sites too but again could not find any info on whether they supported targa files either...
Anyone else got experience on this subject they could possibly share here ?

The suggestions I made are programs that DO support TGA files hence I mentioned them. And yeah sorry Sapphire misread that . And I would not wait for Avanquest to give any answer soon, if even. Their support is a bit like

Okay thanks for your efforts on this... Just with freeware I am none to keen on this for all the baggage they come with to make their money via other means.. ie spyware and the rest of that annoyance... Guess I'll have to try a different route myself to find out for sure...

Thanks for that Hackenslay, seems this mysticthumbs would be a very good choice and why other options can't give a list of supported formats on their sites is beyond belief... I may well be buying this in the near future thanks again for highlighting this program for me...

I got an answer from Avanquest. They do no longer support .tga files and only a very limited amount of others. FYI Gimp and IrfanView are open source not freeware. Though I found no Adware in paint.net either.

Guess I'll have to try a different route myself to find out for sure... The Gimp should be free from any "baggage", Sapphire [SL], assuming you download it from the official site. I've never used Infranview personally, but I do know that it's also Free Software, so it shouldn't have any baggage either. Paint.NET is pure freeware, and iirc is also a clean download. My personal recommendation is...it depends. If you do a lot of heavy graphics manipulation, you really can't beat The Gimp, which is the Free Software answer to Adobe Photoshop. If you don't need advanced features, however, Paint.NET is probably a better solution, as it should be able to work directly with .tga files (the Gimp can read them and can export to the format, but cannot save to it, which makes working directly with .tga files - or anything other than .xcf - awkward). -- arek
