Towards the end of 2016 I returned to NWN after a several year hiatus and joined Higher Grounds on the recommendation of a friend. I had a good time until my hard drive decided to give up the ghost so I had to grab a new one and do clean install of everything. Fortunately, I still had my old CD Keys for NWN, SoU and HotU (had to buy myself a new HotU CD though as had lost it, but the old key worked fine with it).
Having installed and patched everything, I tried to login to play today but unfortunately my character list was completely empty!
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I'm positive I'm using the correct Username (which is 'robd101') and even created a dummy character under same said Username called 'Login Test' to join one of the servers and see if anything else was amiss. What I'm not positive about is the password but none of my go-to passwords are making any difference (although am not sure how relevant it is given GameSpy went bye-bye).
I'm not using any programs to log in, just the standard game. I only ever use to get the 'Unable to connect to Master Server blah blah blah' message but I have noticed that I am also receiving the 'Failed to connect, try another Nick' pop up message now.
I guess your best bet is to have a dm scroll through similar login names. Unless you did something naughty, there is no reason why the chars wouldnt be there. So while you are positive on correct username, it is still most likely to be wrong in some way or another.
As you suspected, the password doesnt mean a thing anymore - hg checks cd-key for account safety and recommends a !password for double safety.
I tried typing the username in a case-sensitive fashion, using my usual go-to combinations but that didn't seem to change anything. Thinking on it now, there is one combination I didn't try but will have to wait until morning to see how that goes.
Sounds promising that there aren't any other known reasons that the characters might not be there.
