Deities and Demigods... The beings portrayed in that ancient tome would quake at the anger of level 80 HG characters. Instead of comparing HG gods... the REAL ones, the ones worthy of a level 80 paladin's fealty and worship and not those who could be slain because they lack backstab immunity... to the current level system, perhaps it might be better to think of the big ones as "level 2 zillion" with their minions' minions' ... minions bottoming out at level 60+. Sure, the bottom minions might be killable, but not by lower level parties and not if the first two waves had 666 apiece, and the third wave was when the minions' boss started to take things seriously. In game terms, maybe 666*2 is a bit much. Maybe only one bottom minion is all the effort a deity would spare. A DM should make this divine determination.
The Pantheon's upper levels are mostly for color as far as the game goes. (Diehard atheistic agnostics would say that holds true for all deities, large and small.) Taking a leaf from the old D&D Deities and Demigods, i think there should be descriptions of deities in terms of their game-wise class affiliations to make them easier to envision, and a few other characteristics like "appearance, favorite weapon, favorite color, permitted alignments, and 'sphere'" in a standardized format. I would like to see the catalog be challengingly large. For those doing the work, I propose that, even though I want a big Pantheon, most of that would be "description only."
[More to come, hopefully sounding less like I am sleep-deprived.]
