You shouldn't need to do that. HG1 and HG2 already are seperate categories. Funky Indeed Funky is correct. I already setup categories to seperate HG1 from HG2. Please make sure you get a list of exisiting categories before creating new ones. You can do this by clicking on the "All Categories" link from the home page under "what this wiki covers" or from the navigation bar on the left hand side under "Browse"

I reverted the category structure, but updated it to includes items as a subcategory under HG1. When get get items for HG2, I will add another category there - we probably have some time on that though

Sigh, I'll change it back when I'm not too busy not procrastinating from school. But still, anyone know how?

Hehe, it was fun changing the template, then going to the Items category and refreshing the page and watching as the articles slowly disappeared one by one....

But isn't there already NWNWiki? The goal of HGWiki is not to duplicate information already outlined in NWNWiki but to archive information that is specific to Higher Ground. This will cover everything from spell changes to loot to FAQs.Arrghh!!!! It's too hard not to write articles on the basics of DnD, like rounds, attacks, etc etc............. And a request: stop posting screenies of items (even though I enjoy reading them) and start adding things like class and ability changes!! </hypocrisy>

When I wrote that quote I wanted to save people the overwhelming task of rewriting everything that was in the manual, grimoire or nwnwiki. However there is some good, basic information that we still get questions on and I think should be added to HGwiki. If you know this information, please feel free to add it! Regarding items - that is important information and needs to be in HGwiki too. However the wonderful thing about a wiki is that everyone can add to it!! Please feel free to add any information you feel useful.

I started to add the descriptions of my kukris and a weapons template (copied from the spell template). Before I get too carried away, is the template supposed to be tied to the weapon pages such that the pages will update automatically when the template is changed? If so, how do I do that? and if not, what purpose does it serve? I would have thought that the {{{portions}}} would end up as editable fields, but still fairly new to this.

Well, heres an example of a template: example and heres an example of the template being used: www.hgwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pixie%27s_Crown&action=editas you can see, the item calls the template, and tells it the drop variable, the rare variable, and the image variable. The system then does all the formatting. As you mentioned, one of the benefits of this easy updating, i.e. if we wanted the information in bullets instead of a grid, then thats 1 change. The template also lets you forget the repetition of adding general categories over and over. Just to touch on adding items, if you are going to create a manual item template, id like to have an option in it that the item screenshot can be added later (you can copy the 1item template code for that above). If theres no screenshot you just would call the variable without any value (i.e. "|item= "). Or just work up what you can and post here and I can update it.

OK, so I've managed to get it sort of working and updated Glacier to use it. Not sure how to address special properties as their titles will be unique. I suppose I could call out formatted variables like {{{prop1}}} and so on, but that could be a hassle as the amount of properties vary with each item. Perhaps I'm going for too much; I've noticed for the most part that descriptions are handled with screenshots. I was thinking it would be nice to have the info in text so that one could cross-search (eg. show all items with magic resist, etc.) I put in an image variable, but with no value it gave me: [[Image]] (I could do it with other variables no problem ) so I uploaded a single pixel transparent gif and that seemed to do the trick. Let me know if I should continue down this path or just stick with screenies. ss

The only thing I was concerned with (and why I was doing images) were A) typos, and B) thought it would take longer. Besides that, its a nice idea to have more of the data search-able, its a benefit. After doing quite a few items via image, I can tell you its time consuming. If I get into the mode, I can do maybe 20 items an hour. Since the game does not allow you to enlarge the item detail box, you have to combine 2-3 screen-shots for the longer item descriptions (rez does not help), along with getting all the gear onto low level characters so they will show the level requirement, etc. But I would assume adding the item via text is no picnic either. At this point my goal is to get this thing to become a viable tool, and the only way to do that is go get as much data on there as possible. So any way you want to contribute is fine with me - I say, get it all up there, use templates if you can, and we can sort it all out later.

Maybe for items, for now just enter their special properties if you're going to type them in by hand, then categorize them as "Incomplete" (stubbing them wouldn't really be appropriate).
Also, Gamebanshee is an AWESOME resource for screenshots of class, spell, skill, and feat descriptions. I'm not sure about the legality of using their screenshots, though, but the screenshots are just taken from NWN, so it should be fine right....? However, they are missing some feats (like Epic Dodge), especially feats given automatically to classes (like Dual Wield). Also, some feats contain errors, like Epic Dodge does not require Dodge or 30 ranks of tumble (just 1). And it doesn't show ability progression for the base classes, nor does it give details on special abilities like Shadow Evade (though it'd have to be changed for HG).
