Hi, was just leveling today and realized I had a small bug: Skill points that I was leaving over from level to level were not being saved (I'm talking regular levels, not LL or anything). It's as simple as that, I left over 1 skill point as I went up a few levels (4 levels I believe) and noticed that it was not being added to next level up. (yeah, I know 4 times is a bit much not to notice, but I was actually checking if the problem persisted). I tried the exact same char in test area and everything went fine, so I have no idea what's wrong. Loggin: Dannecrot, Char: Andy Quicklegs. Even if the skillpoints can be added (not to any skill in particular, just to the total amount) can it be prevented from happening again? Thx.

The only way this could happen is corruption on the server, and if that had occurred other people would be having similar problems. My guess is you are miscalculating the number of skill points you are supposed to be getting each level. Funky

Sorry, but I did redo the char in the test area and everything worked out as it was supposed to, so I guess I'll just elaborate: Race: Thri-Kreen, Class: 5 Druid 4 Shifter. Abilities: 16 str, 14 dex, 8 con, 12 int, 16 wis, 8 cha with race changes: 16 str, 16 dex, 8 con, 10 int, 18 wis, 6 cha Two things to note: 1) because my base race is human I get an extra point per level. 2) because the int decrease doesn't occur until after i create the character, I would have 4 extra skill points first level. Now, druid and shifter are 4 + int modifier making it (5 + 1 human) * 4 first level, and 4 + 1 human any other level. I maxed all my skills, so it is very simple. I took: animal empathy, concentration, heal, lore, spellcraft (and my extra 4 points I put into parry) then all the other levels I increased them all (except for parry), that makes 6 skills at first level and 5 at any other levels. When I finished Druid that should make it, 8 ranks in all of them except for 4 in parry. Now, once I reached my shifter levels, spellcraft became cross-class so I decided I would save my points until my druid levels so that I could max it easier. I used 4 of my 5 points in animal empathy, concentration, heal and lore and saved 1 point. Next level up I only had 5 points, meaning I did not have my saved point. Not only that, but I did this, for all 4 of my shifter levels and this happened every time. Truth is, is that now that I spelled my char out like that I can see that I sort of built him badly (I didn't even mention feats which were a big screw-up), I may just redo him, but I think if you could look into this and tell me whats going on, that would be nice. Now, truth is, I had a few other bugs with this char in particular (I didn't mention them till now because they were pretty small): 1) I lost my PC Scry all of a sudden the other day, don't know the details exactly because I just looked down to where it was quicksloted, and it was gone. (tried retracing my steps to see if it had dropped somehow - which I know it can't - but couldn't find it) I just teleported to town (with a stone) and it reappeared, so everything is fine. The only thing I could think of that it may be attributed to, is the fact that I was in shifted form and without thinking sometimes would try to use it, I think right before this happened I had tried it a few times in a row by mistake . Or this problem may even be because of the second one: 2) When I pass areas in shifted form, I get a strew of messages in my combat log saying: "You cannot use this item" (5 or 6 times) I did a bit of testing and found it's correlated to the number of things in my quickslots. (don't know if this is a known problem) Now maybe these things are connected to my char being buggy in general, or it may be because of shifter, and this was my first and only shifter (hence the messed up build) just thought you should know... P.S. in case you were wondering, I do check thoroughly before posting on this forum as I think if it is a mess-up on my side that is just a waste of time for you, and I for one am very excited to see those foretold updates you've been talking about.

I would first try reinstalling, if any of this starts to happen with any other character. It sounds like you are having some very curious issues. Funky

Reinstalling NWN? I guess I could do that, but as I said: I redid the char and the points saved, I only once before lost my PC scry and that was because of a very unfortunately timed crash, and are you saying you don't know anything about the "cannot use" message? Truth is I'm reluctant to reinstall NWN, everything else works absolutely fine and I'm prone to believe it may be just a buggy char file, is that possible? as my friend always tells me: "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" so guess I'll probably just redo the char. Do you advise waiting till after a server reset after I've deleted it?

I'm not interested in the scrye, it was snagged by a rogue spectre or quickling, etc. The 'cannot use' messages are bizarre, however. Could you provide much more detail on that bug please? Not really sure what you mean - does it happen when you transition? If so, what areas? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. Thanks, Funky

Is it not true that if you log into the game without a PC scry you are sent to cheaters cell? if so making it PP able can send lots of people there for no reason...
About the "Cannot use": Absolutely every area transition, if it's in or out of a cave, if it is in or out of the wyrm or anything, if I am in shifted form when I do the passing, I get the message a certain amount of times equal to all the items I have quicksloted in my main quickslot bar (not shift or ctrl, but I haven't checked that yet) - EDIT - checked, it adds "cannot use" messages also for things in the shift and ctrl quickslots - this of course is only items, not search or stealth mode, and I think a weapon and a shield in one slot counts as 2.
Update on the skill point issue: I saved my char file and opened it into a little mod I created which would level you up. On my very first level up (to level 10) I got 6 points (the rest of the levels continued to save points as usual). This may mean that when I level up ingame, it erases my saved points but not the ones I save this level up. (which would explain why I had 1 saved) Or possibly the bug fixed itself and now it is saving points as it should, (though I doubt it) I will try this ingame.
I would give a screenshot of the "cannot use" messages, but there isn't really anything to see, it looks just like you shifted and tried to use something multiple times.

Not 100% certain but I think my shifter always gets the cannot use item messages as well. I will be verifying this this morning, and posting definitively.

My shifter always gets the "cannot use" message as well. I just chalked it up to not being able to use things in shifter forms.

Its a bug with Human Shifters in general. Leveling while shifted, NWN doesn't consider you Human, and hence you don't get the extra skill point for being Human.
Spent a lot of time confirming this problem on a different server, so I'm 100% sure this is the problem. If the character in question is deleveled and releveled (assuming your policy allows for it), you'll get all your lost skill points back.
Just make sure to avoid leveling while shifted, and you can avoid this in the future.

The "You cannot use this item" message occurs for every hotkeyed item you have, every time you go through an area transition. Hotkey 10 items, get the message 10 times. It can be ignored.

The leveling while shifted thing makes perfect sense, thanks for the heads up. As to the other, how long has that been happening? I'm amazed no one reported it before now. Funky

If you mean the "Cannot use item" message - ever since I started my druid/shifter character..which is maybe 2 weeks or so. Not exactly sure on date.

The shifter 'cannot use' error was around in 1.66, and quite likely longer than that. It's just one of the many shifter quirks.
