I bought it, played for fifteen minutes, made some adjustments to the settngs, and realized there were too many graphics problems. My video card may be the culprit, but the rest of my system is well above the recommended specs, and video card exceeds minimum specs. It plays, but has glitches and I find the controls to be awkward. I'm going to wait on a patch and a new video card before continuing--fortunately, I'm still thoroughly enjoying HG/NWN.

My advice would simply be to adjust graphic settings, if you are already above recommended specs. Mine plays great on a GeForce 6600, with shadows turned off. Funky

My system is minimum except for my graphics card (it's way over) and I have no probs at all. A buddy o' mine was having difficulties untill I reminded him to turn off anything running in the background including his RAM cleaner.....fixed him right up. Might want to look into that as well.

I have it! And your'e right, it runs slooowwwwww, on minimum settings, though its slightly prettier than nwn, it runs like 10 times slower :x [ran it on a comp with dual core P4 2.6ghz, and dual radeon 9800, a ton of ram.. yeah..] Shadows and water refraction seem to be the big performance hits. Also if you have XFire running you might wanna get rid of that. I love the story so far though, and the henchies are really amusing But the interface (controls included) is a nightmare. General lag/unreponsiveness seems to be a designed "feature", and spells are too easily cast on the wrong target. Buttons for stuff you can do are all over the place (hidden in the char sheet, buried in menues etc.). Doing anything not in a hotkey pretty much necessitates a pause, simply becuase you have to navigate this dropdown menu (no hotkeys, and you gotta hold a button and wait for it to open :/), or open that window/scroll down/switch tabs etc... I just can't see anyone making a playable PW out of it. And there are just too many bugs for now... :/ Like that time it autosaved during a engine cutscene and my party somehow ended up in the cutscene area (saved) and stuck.. Or like how anytime that I scribe a spell to my wizard's spellbook, my wizard would end up having "learned too many spells" when i try to join a game.. Or the way taking a wizard level while wearing a +int item will bug out the char.. Or how when I switched the sound provider settings for the first time, the sound went away, permanently.. Or.. or.. yeah.. you get the idea. They seriously needed a longer dev. cycle.. but on the upside, they're still working on it. Meanwhile, I'll be sticking to HG, until NWN2 becomes less painful to play. I can't imagine how they intended on making it even remotely playable on XBox.. since that was the original plan (windows and xbox) It's funny, because, I've always played NWN with environmental shadows off for performance reasons. After playing NWN2, NWN at full settings seems so silky smooth! I feel spoiled.

While I am disappointed in NWN2 right out of the box, I still hold out hope that over time, patches will address the numerous issues I've encountered--not to mention community content/workarounds.
No big deal...I'm not upset that I purchased it, I'm content to wait a few months for the performance issues to be addressed and/or modded out. I can't help but compare it to Oblivion, which had so much modding support that I still find it quite fun to play in spite of it's flaws. I may even give it another try, though I've adjusted the settings extensively and am still unhappy with the awkward controls.
I look at it like this: If over the course of a few years, NWN2 provides me even a quarter the entertainment that NWN did, it's still worth my $50.00.

Well I read alot on the NWN2 Tech forums today and found the problem with my system... I was running outdoor areas fine, Indoor tiles were killing me. Game settings set all the way on low...
BUT I went into my Graphics card and made a special profile for NWN2 and in it, adjusted my 3D peromance sliders from maxed at Quality, to maxed on performance. Also Forced off V Sync.
After that, Can run NWN2 with everything on EXCEPT Shadows pointlights and water stuff.
It runs pretty good, It dosent run as smooth as NWN1 on my system but hey... NWN is like 4 years old...
My system is a Athlon 64 2800+ with 1.25 Gigs of RAM running a Radeon 9600 256MB card. According to systemrequirmentslab I barely meet the reqs in every segment but the memory.
So I know this game can run good on other systems. Just needs a little tweeking.
as far as the drop down menus they actually make life quite a bit simpler once you get the hang of it, EVERYTHING is within 2 clicks, no more radials, nada. You cna also adjust how long it takes a menu to drop in the options.
All in all a really good game, I think we are all just spoilied on how used to NWN 1 we are.

Been playing NWN2 for a few days now and must say there is a load of potential for HG2, although i found a few of the changes ingame to be kinda hokey like having to hold down the right mouse button for options on a target among numberous other little quirks. The graphics look much better and i can see how some with lower system specs and video cards will definately have problems with choppy play. Try killing the vertical sync on some cards it seems to give up to 30 extra fps and as funky suggested kill the shadows. All in all i am loving my uber warlock and plan on creating a multitude of characters in my spare time to see how effective new feats and attributes to the characters will be.. i mean how can you not want Monkey Grip as a feat if you are a fighter lol.

As for a playable PW......we can do it....nobody thought it could be done with NWN 1 but it was. I've already converted (for the most part) an old mod of mine with only minor difficulties.....have faith and be patient...if we build it.....they will come.

running in the background including his RAM cleaner. Tell your friend installing "performance utilities" like these will actually slow down his computer. A clean system is better, WindowsXP does an ok job with memory management, not perfect but better than running background apps. I have a P4 - 2.4ghz, 1 gig Ram and a Radeon 9500pro vid card. My card is bottom of barrel for acceptable cards, first day I thought it was unplayable, I turned off shadows and installed "Omega Drivers" (performance enhanced ATI drivers) and I now have and acceptable 18-25 fps. (much higher than some people with dual core / dual video card rigs are getting??) I overclocked my cpu and vid card for the first time and NWN2 ran fine but logging into HG, I kept crashing, go figure.

noviaIt looks like you have some legitimate bugs there to be sure. Please send them into the Dev team asap. Someone has to be the first.
