15/20 I enjoyed the DL books I read, but who's Elminster again?

Elminster is the equivalant of Gandalf (at least in my mind). You always need some kick ass mage. Isn't Elminster FR and not DL? In DL it's Raistlin (sp?). Jenna

Elminster is the sage of Shadowdale, and the preeminent mage of the Forgotten Realms. This question borders on heresy. In Dragonlance, the preeminent mage would be Raistlin, or possibly Fistandantilus, though I'm splitting hairs here. Interesting how the mages are different alignments. I think this has a dramatic impact on the two worlds in question. Now this could be an interesting topic. How does the fact that Raistlin/Fistandantilus vs Elminster's alignments are so different impact the overall feel of their respective realms? In order to prevent hijacking this thread, I am going to start a new one. highergroundpoa.proboards3.com/index.cgi?board=offtop&action=display&n=1&thread=5388

19 out of 20.
Scary. But then again, my first D&D game was made up on the fly out of a 1st Edition DMG...and my first computer games were the gold-box TSR "Pool of Radiance" series, right after the silver-boxed TSR Dragonlance game where you take the party from "Dragons of Autumn Twighlight) through Xax Tsaroth (or however you spell it) to fight the Black Dragon Ksanth...
Wow...I can't believe I remember those details...I shall have to go drag those books from the shelves and re-read them...
...okI'mageekIadmititfreely...
(Everything but the question on chain-weilding demon/devils...must be a new critter...I certainly can't think of any mythological basis for it)

Ahh...those were the days Delf. I still have my Basic (red) through Immortal (gold) box set books (and boxes) still! As well as the gold box Pool of Radiance series (and Krynn series). Running those babies on a tandy with those awesome EGA quality graphics. I couldn't get enough. I used to love making half-elf fight/rogue/wizards. And Great Cleave on the Fighters! I loved watching kobolds surround my character and...whack whack whack whack..no more kobolds lol. Maybe I should design that dungeon that came with the basic DMG for HG lol...now where did I put those carrion crawlers...oh, there's my original dice set! hehe...my d20 looks like a marble, all the edges are worn off. Jenna
Edit - Anyone remember the stats on the tandy? I know my first computer was 2 meg ram, 20 megabyte hd, think I may have had a SVGA card in there, ran at 33 1/3 Mhz. Cost about $1500 favorite games were Heros Quest, Space Quest, Mines of Moria, and of course PoR!

Yep the old SSI Golden Box games were fun. Those were the first computer games I really played. Also played quite a few Ultimas. (Ultima III, IV and V) I had a Commadore 128 of all things lol. Ultima VI and VII were great ones as well.
Played all the DL ones and played PoR, Curse and Silver Blades. PoR was my first and my fav.

Yes Jenna! mwuhahaha...for me it was on the IBM 286. Still ran at 33 1/3 though. For me, I had the half-elven Ftr/Cleric/Magic User contingent - half the party in fact. Took forever to level, and paid out the nose (1000 GP to train, per person, per class, per level? OUCH). I think everyone gets spoiled on free training I loved that game so much that I kept it on the machine all the way through the 586 we had at home, with a clockspeed reducing program. Only game I know where the best sword in the game can be found at the bottom of a WELL! Mmm +5 Longsword... I miss "Sweep" - that Great Cleave you mentioned...kinda made me feel like taking on a legion of kobolds was more like wack-a-mole. And the Krynn series! I forgot all about that - I had them also. I always made a point to have both a white robe and a red robe mage in each party. And my rogues were always kender, in honor of the great Tasselhoff. Oh, and Groo...did you play Pools of Darkness also? It made a GREAT cap. Truthfully - I carried one character ALL the way from PoR through each of the four games (plus Hillsfar, neat little 1st person sideline) - transferring them from each game to the next. It was SUCH a satisfying cap to the campaign to know that the character I started bashing kobolds with at level 1 way back in PoR was the exact same one that was taking the boat off into the sunset for Pools of Darkness. You just can't get that kind of epic closure anymore. Everything else seems to want to be played forever...as if having a beginning doesn't imply the need for an end. Mmmm what a trip down memory lane! And a good one, I must admit!

They never made Pools of Darkness for the 128 couldn't handle it hehe. I played it once but wasn't on my machine, so never finished it. Yep, some good times for sure
