I leveled my ranger/wm/rogue Thanos past immortal and have finally started to put some equipment together to make use of his strengths a little better. Anyhow I noticed a few things and have some questions/comments that maybe people could help me out with. He's very different from the battle cleric style I usually like playing, so I'm a little out of my comfort zone. One thing I will say its very nice having someone who can loot just about anything that he sets his eyes upon.
1.) Devastating Traps.
I had this big plan to make the trap makers in the game part of my regular playing repertoire. I have been actively seeking them out and have collected many different types (electric, fire, frost, acid, negative, divine, and magic). I've recently acquired an amulet that places my skills for using these makers and laying down traps well beyond the minimum requirements. Using the trap makers themselves eats 150k of gold! I was expecting big things! I've been trying them out placing traps against bigger targets I would normally have trouble against and choosing the trap that the opponent would be most weak against. A lot of the time the monster makes a successful reflex save and the damage is nerfed or altogether avoided. When they do hit, they do less damage than a single critical hit with an ordinary level appropriate sword. I'm thinking...am I doing something wrong? Anybody get traps working for them in a productive way?
2.) Open lock and disarm trap
I have these skills up past 100 d/c. I could probably do open lock of DC 110. I'm wondering what is the highest DC lock/trap I should be shooting for? I could raise both skills up much more with some feats, but maybe the best solution is a little more boosting with eq and adding to my dex stat. I've heard of locks with DC 120....anything much higher than that?
3.) Favored enemies/Bane of enemies
I'm wondering how I can add in the pluses I get as a ranger from these two features to my stat screen. That is what part of my damage roll should I be adding the pluses I've accumulated to. Does the plus I get add to the ab against an opponent or is it lets say + damage? How does it work against undead (one of the enemies I selected) since they are immune to critical hits.
