Hey, got xul for my staffmaster last night, love the class. Good fun. GOOD WORK DM TEAM! Death is swift following a mord or breach, but i guess that's a balancing thing.. gotta have weaknesses to have strengths...? (and there's an item for that, once i'm immortal)
Thought perhaps the True Strike spell could do with a rejig for staffmasters?
I was thinking of something like increased crit range (by 2 maybe 4) keep the +20 ab (not so useful with gmw, but may as well keep it) and increase the duration, to make it the staffmaster's equivilant of barbarian rage;;; as most if not all bosses are crit immune, this'd be used for mobs and imo, would be a nice addition to a tricky but very fun build.
I thought this could be something triggered by an item that appears in your inventory at 30, (based on how many true strike spells you have mem'd) or a class secret you have to find (if you beefed it up even more)
(apologies if there's already a staffmaster secret, gonna check on my way into HG in a sec)
EDIT: I guess the WM whirlwind mod counts as class secret here, as it's my control class. so maybe forget about the class secret bit.. EDIT II: Actually, True Strike is pretty good for getting those 2nd and 3rd attacks in against high AC
What d'you think?

We can't mod crit range on the fly, other than adding the keen property, sorry. And no, SMs don't have a secret, as they were designed to be balanced as-is. Funky

Hey, that's cool, just thought i'd throw the idea out there.. Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, staffmaster is well balanced against other classes, so further enhancements would be overkill. Cheers

Im not so sure. Ive been toying with the notion of gving them % elemetnal immunity = WM level for the element their staff is set to, because they get utterly wrecked whenever dispelled. Try taking one to the beholders. That, or a staff that grants breach immunity. Funky

Now you're talking! ;D Breach is the new mord That would be brilliant. And immunities are always good.. It'd have to rival Quarrel dmg-wise tho, that is one nice staff [waffle start]Another alternative would be a higher lvl torch (flag) with breach immune.. maybe i'm just missing them, but the best torch i found is blue and white, useable from lvl 15 and made redundant somewhere between there and 40 by other items. That would (perhaps) bring the value of the breach proof item down and the availability of it up (at your discretion obviously) on the basis it wouldn't be a super dooper ultrarare only available to lvl 60s or ppl with billions of HG gp Or you could make both. (a staff and a flag, for flexibilty, don't want dualers getting upset).... [waffle end]On a side note, with the right items/feats you can wear a sheild and heavy armor in mord/breach heavy areas so that you have buffs and armor, but not the HG improved prem/ev etc.. (gaining around 103 ac with immo gear and some other stuff - not amazing, but better than 80 ac and no buffs)

Wait, do magic staffs count as quarterstaffs for the weapon proficiency feat? You can wield a magic staff (1h) with a flag offhand, but not a quarterstaff (2h) with a flag.

Af far as I know, magic staffs do not count as quarterstaffs in regards to the weapon proficiency feats.

You can hold a quarterstaff with a flag if you are large...
