I don't think I am the only one that has this problem, but I haven't found any solutions on bioware forums, so I am posting it here.
Since I updated to 1.68 my gameplay is very choppy. I have a nice computer and I have always played with all the settings all the way up, but now, even if I turn them down, the animation is choppy. It's like short lag sperts one right after the other and it is a little irritating. I updated my drivers for sound and video, so that isn't it. I went to an area where I was totally alone, without a cloak, and it still happend.
If anyone has any suggestions I will be sure to try them all.

I noticed some graphical tearing after the new cloaks were added, but it went away after the mod updated, adnm I have a new videwo card today, so I can't really say for sure if its an issue. Funky

Not sure why they bothered adding cloaks at this late stage of the engine as I can't say I like the way your elbows poke through the back of them when you're moving. I know people have always asked for them but I guess they should have waited for NWN2 to do them properly.

The apparently look better without the animation fix we tell everyone to use. Which makes sense, I suppose, but is unfortunate. Funky

I have found out by uninstalling and reinstalling a few times that the reason my game play is choppy doesn't have anything to do with graphics or anything like that. When I click 'join an internet game' and it pings the servers my average ping is like 400 where it used to be 100. The pings never improve no matter how long I sit and wait. I get bad pings on every server so I know it's something with my computer, but I also know it is something with the 1.68 update that caused it because my pings are good when I revert to 1.67.
Does anyone know of the update changing protocall or something that maybe my computer isn't comatable with?

Ok, if you are SURE that your pings improve when you revert to 1.67, and that this isn'y some issue caused by Windows updater changing your drivers, I would post on the support forums at Bioware. I have a real hard time seeing how 1.68 could do that, tho, tbh. Funky

start --> run --> cmd --> type "ping 64.237.35.112" and see what your response times are. If they are in the 100ms area, then disregard the info your seeing in the gamespy list. If its 400's there as well then -
start --> run --> cmd --> type "tracert 64.237.35.112" and see where the holdup is in the results, or copy and paste the resulting information in a PM to me to look at (its old habit, but imo not a good idea to post your originating tracert info anywhere)

Is your system a dual core, dual processor, or hyperthreading system? If so do a search for CPU affinity and NWN. I had a choppy graphics problem until i set NWN to run on a single core - now all is well.

I pinged like you said to whodat1 and I averaged 101ms so whatever that means. If it is gamespy's problem why has it only happened since the update? Also if it is gamespy's problem why is my game play choppy/laggy? So far nothing about this problem has made sence to me.
I have a p4 3.4 which I think is dual core, but maybe not. I tried the CPU affinity fix, and surprisingly it didn't change game play at all, I thought for sure that would change something, but no dice.
I am messing with the ini files for nwn now to see if I can find a setting to change and just keep expirimenting.

Well, its not really gamespys problem as much as it is gamespy is a piece of junk. If gamespy is registering 400ms pings while you are in actuality doing 100ms to the servers, then its not a network latency issue thats causing your problems.
Next step is to eliminate HG as the problem -, start a HOTU campaign and see if its choppy, join different PW and see if its choppy there.
If you are getting choppy with HOTU campaign, thats starting to validate that its something to do with the patch or with your hw. Update your video card drivers, make sure directx is up to date, and see how that goes. Your basically trying to get all the obvious out of the way before spending oodles of time with tech support.

I got onto some other server, all of which suck nuts compaired to HG btw, and they are all choppy also.
I had already updated all my drivers for every single thing, not just sound and video cards, it didn't help, but it is nice to get some fresh drivers.

I had something similar to this happen awhile back, and it turned out to be the driver for my wireless card. EVERYTHING about my conn was affected though, though it was inconsistent. Might want to triple check the ping to the server on GameSpy just before doing a ping or a tracert. Funky

I have done everything I can think of, which mind you can't be much because I am not as coputer savey as you guys seem to be, but this is what I have done. Update every driver for my computer (thats right every one) reinstalled NWN several times erased all .2da files messed with the Client CPU Affinity= and put in random numers as well as -1 and 0 (nothing changed) pinged the servers from a command prompt=about 100ms, but in game pings are 500-1000 all the time. did a tracert on server 111 and no problems anywhere reverted to 1.67 and checked pings in gamespy and they were normal around 100ms reinstalled 1.68 pings were back up to 500-1000 (did this several times a day) I really can't think of anything else. I have seen other people in game having the same issued I am, but I haven't talked to them because it is usually too bad to play and they get off.
Quite a brain teaser isn't it?

its biowares way of telling us that If we don't buy NWN2 then they are going to slowly increase our latency.. (unneccesery really, I mean who won't buy NWN2?)
