i don't think that the answer is to create MORE powerleveling items (think thid wands, emerald of experience , leveling tome, pets, etc) or to create a lotery system whereby someone runs into a bur that slingshots them into fame. it would definately devalue the work which most vets have put into this game. Game balance is always _the_ issue. I don't think a better than average weapon that has a ridiculously low drop rate and usable for only a few levels would devalue anyones success. It adds a new element to the game much like BUR races, Bard improvements, Spell changes, and class revisions. Without knowing an ounce of NWN scripting I am sure there are ways that items can be scripted to no give on use, level restricted, de-equip upon level #, and deletion. The overhead of that... anyones guess. Will we ever see anything like this? Probably not. Do I care? No, not really. I am more or less airing the suggestion for the sake of discussion and putting for the idea with the hope that it may foster others. -Res It's not THAT easy. I believe it is possible (I'm not good enough to know for sure) but it's a lot harder than a level req. that the Wizard in the Toolset can (I think) provide. On the actual subject, I'm not sure what you suggest would work. It won't increase the supply of BUR items, so people still won't trade them for anything below huge sums. More common equipment won't get them to part with it. On the other hand, more UR items might mean the BURs are not as valuable in comparison to the alternatives, so your idea might work.

I think it would be nice if an area like thids and/or Ssithrak and/or Pyramid had a chest or two with a small chance of dropping a BUR item/race. This way the less fortunate also have a chance of finding something good.
The way it is now is you need to invest a lot in your character to make him suitable for hell. Building a pure class is almost impossible if you want to bring a character to hell. If you think on building a pure barbarian as a tank you would need to invest 8 feats to get his saves up to order. Only way to reduce that is adding pala and or BG. Even a chest in the end room of thids which has a static cloak drop would add a 1% chance of a bur drop would already be realy great. Even a hidden place with a chest and 1% bur drop chance would be nice.

i'd like to say that since i first wrote this funky & co have added tons of items in the way of set randoms, and true random loot. i haven't played enough lately to comment on how it is nice, but its nice to not see the same 2 race books and ur robes for trade all the time. i think all the artifacts and pandects etc really make it interesting.
hopefully i'll be back to see how the loot works now in trades etc in a week or so when i can setup my main rig again

I really don't see the basis for the statement earlier that gold is so devalued. For those of you who have BUR equipment and do a lot of trading among yourselves, I imagine it would seem so... but I for one know what to do with 500 million gold in the bank: hit the market chests!! I have sold plenty of items in the chests, including two Mino books for 100 mil each, and I use that money to buy good items I find there. Supply and demand. Sure, NONE of you would ever dream of paying 100 million for a set drop, but to a new player who's done a fair amount of LL runs and built up a gold supply, but who also hasn't been lucky enough in loot rolls, that 100 million Mino book is a steal. Just the other day I shelled out a couple million for a Master Helm of Swords, which is an ultra-lowbie helm with 15/- slashing, VERY useful for leveling any lowbie toon. I don't remember exactly but I think it's usable at level 10 or even below that.
Further examples of nice purchases I've made are mord rings, some of the rarer AA quivers, level 29 and 35 rare weapons, and even a few pieces of UR equipment. Don't know how to spend 500 million worth of gold in your bank?? Well, if you're short on the basic immunity rings for your latest immos and you don't want to bother storing all your rings in the bank every time you finish a run, why not spend a few hundred million to get a new set of rings? They usually go for about 100 million apiece, and the right combination can ensure a new immo has three elements covered at least 75% at all times.
Don't want your spare gold? Why not give it to me? I'll find ways to spend it!

I was excited when I reached 100 mil gold, thinking I could finally replace my rhinoceros hide. But low and behold, when something better does get placed for sale or auction, its 500 mil or more. Alas, I will be using my rhinoceros hide for while longer I fear.

You should be able to find better set drops than that by now. Depends a bit on your class though. If you just powerlevel and don't explore it'll take longer, though, true. Funky

If I may, I believe that the loot system and economy is the way it should be as is. As it stands there are more items now to fill out almost any level character in the game and the marketplace is an added boon to make available items to all players that can afford to pay for it. Those of us that are pre-sissthraks, pre-arctic, pre-loot system, pre-multi-server, pre-transfer chests, pre-legendary levels, and pre-subrace characters can really appreciate the effort of the server gurus of changing a static module into such a dynamic environment. If you didnt know, ask the older dms about the cabinet in the sages' house where we used to do loot splits after a boss fight for the millionth time. Forgive me if I digressed, it happens when trying to read into something in a text and sometimes the message gets convoluted (sp) into meaningless dribble. Darin (pick a last name)

Don't really see what all the commotion about cash is, never had much call for it except to buy heals n rezzes and a quick run thru for any immo of Yukio killing will net enough for that. We have a great barter system which if you think about it the world in which we play, if it was (and yes I know it isn't) a real world would probably live on an economy based on barter rather than cold hard cash.
As for needing BURS' etc they are nice yes but no one needs them to go to hell. UR's are freely found all over the mod in various areas and are perfectly adequate for the task.
I think the whole point of restricting UR's and BUR's to certain areas and the level restrictions on them is to encourage you to explore the mod and spend time on your characters rather than just powerlevelling thru a few select areas and hitting that magic 60 as fast as possible.
If the Admin team didn't want us to explore the lower areas as much as the higher levels we'd all just be given level 40 at log in.
