I'll be doing an upgrade to SIMTools soon, and want to fill in some gaps in the languages. I will offer a free rare to anyone who completes a useable cipher, and afree ultrare (random chest, you could get a subby book) for each of the top 5 entries (as judged by me). What you have to do: 1) Pick a language not already in SIMTools. You may decide to do a language that another entrant has done, so long as it is not in SIMTools, but preference in judging will be given to the first person to write a cipher for a language, if the two ciphers are roughly of equal quality. What kind of langauges are we after? If you look over the list, you'll notice that there are many races unrepresented. There is no Troll, for instnace, no Kuo-Toa, no Hobgoblin, and so on. We want actual forgotten realms racial or regional languages, not just ones you invent on the spot. Here is a list of languages already in SIMTools: Abyssal Algarondan Alzhedo Animal Aquan Assassin Auran Cant Celestial Chessentan Chondathan Chultan Common Damaran Dambrathan Draconic Drow DrowSign Druidic Durpari Dwarven Elven Giant Gnoll Gnomish Goblin Halardrim Halfling Halruaan Ignan Illuskan Imaskar Infernal Lantanese Leetspeak Midani Mulhorandi Nexalan Oillusk Orcish Rashemi Raumvira Serusan Shaaran Shou Sylvan Talfiric Tashalan Terran Treant Tuigan Turmic Uluik Undercommon Untheric Vaasan 2) Write a cipher for the language. What's a cipher? It's a set of conversions. For each letter in the english alphabet, you provide a letter or letter that it should be converted to when 'speaking' that language. You must provide conversions for a-z, lower and uppercase. Here is an example cipher, for halfling: a converts to e b converts to p c converts to s d converts to t e converts to i f converts to w g converts to k h converts to n i converts to u j converts to v k converts to g l converts to c m converts to l n converts to r o converts to y p converts to b q converts to x r converts to h s converts to m t converts to d u converts to o v converts to f w converts to z x converts to q y converts to a z converts to j A converts to E B converts to P C converts to S D converts to T E converts to I F converts to W G converts to K H converts to N I converts to U J converts to V K converts to G L converts to C M converts to L N converts to R O converts to Y P converts to B Q converts to X R converts to H S converts to M T converts to D U converts to O V converts to F W converts to Z X converts to Q Y converts to A Z converts to J Note that not all characters need to convert (they can convert to (blank), or nothing), caps can convert to lowercase, and letters can be converted to multiple letters or even symbols. Here's an example of a cipher that encorporates some of these ideas (Shou): a converts to u b converts to e c converts to o d converts to m e converts to h f converts to p g converts to s h converts to o i converts to d j converts to r k converts to r l converts to e m converts to a n converts to r o converts to c p converts to (blank) q converts to o r converts to j s converts to n t converts to w u converts to i v converts to nd w converts to c x converts to S y converts to O z converts to gh A converts to B B converts to (blank) C converts to A D converts to ' E converts to G F converts to A G converts to N H converts to V I converts to A J converts to L K converts to R L converts to A M converts to U N converts to Y O converts to T P converts to O Q converts to - R converts to R S converts to A T converts to U U converts to R V converts to O W converts to A X converts to H Y converts to K Z converts to S When trying to come up with your own ciphers, be creative! Try to get a feel for what the language you picked should sound like, and base your cipher on that. The more a language 'feels' like the race or region you picked, the better. I look forward to seeing what you all produce! Contest will run for one week, ending next Thursday. Funky

hm. Looks like this could be fun Okay, starting with Troll. I couldn't find two sources that agreed on what a Faerun Troll sounds like, so I'll go with a rubbery, warbling, gurgling kind of sound. Also, I'll go with the notion that they prefer yelling over speaking, and as such wouldn't have a lot of hard consonants in their language. Finally, they aren't very smart, so they wouldn't have a large, complex alphabet. With all that in mind, and a little help from a "top 100 english words" site to test the phonics, this is what I come up with: a converts to oo b converts to g c converts to lo d converts to r e converts to un f converts to b g converts to ag h converts to aw i converts to a j converts to h k converts to h l converts to r m converts to m n converts to wa o converts to a p converts to ha q converts to or r converts to ug s converts to ar t converts to g u converts to ee v converts to m w converts to ar x converts to l y converts to im z converts to h A converts to Oo B converts to G C converts to Lo D converts to R E converts to Un F converts to B G converts to Ag H converts to Aw I converts to A J converts to H K converts to H L converts to R M converts to M N converts to Wa O converts to A P converts to Ha Q converts to Or R converts to Ug S converts to Ar T converts to G U converts to Ee V converts to M W converts to Ar X converts to L Y converts to Im Z converts to H Sample conversion: "human stick me with sword" "aweemoowa argaloh mun aragaw araraugr"

Thri-Kreen.
This language is made up of clicks, clacks, whirrs, and the grinding of jaw appendages. I placed apostraphes in the cypher to help separate out consonant sounds and give clues as to pronounciation. It's very difficult for most other creatures to speak this language. The sound I'm trying to get is a loudly whispered clicking, whirring, buzzing kind of sound.

GrimLock: would use a lot of clicking and clacking sounds as well as vowelish sounds in its language. I still think it comes out pretty cool and if you try to pronounce it. I think it sounds good.

Nice work guys. Please continue to do sample conversions as it will make judging them all the easier when the time comes. Thanks, Funky

Not sure if this is what you're lookin for, but it looks like fun so I'll give it a go:
Half-Orcish: being half human (common speaking) and not too bright, I tried to simulate pidgin English meets hooked-on-phonics gone wrong.

Kuo-Toa
Kuo-Toa are large amphibians with huge, fish-like heads. They speak undercommon, aquan, and have their own arcane language as well. Apparently, few, if any, bards or sages powerful enough to survive an encounter with them have bothered to visit the Kuo-Toa, since very little is known about their native language. The large fish heads give them a deep resonant croak, sort of like a cross between a bullfrog and a tuba.

K no problem. Sorry if i'm being a pain, but can can other characters like ' and SPACE (blank) be translated? Kenders tend to speak in a string of concatenated words ifyouknowwhatimean so I was hopin to add: (blank) converts to y). I provided both conversions just in case. Kenderspeak a converts to ay b converts to b c converts to l d converts to dt e converts to i f converts to v g converts to j h converts to ' i converts to ee j converts to pt k converts to k l converts to h m converts to my n converts to ny o converts to oo p converts to p q converts to k r converts to s s converts to r t converts to p u converts to ew v converts to v w converts to v x converts to s y converts to ey z converts to k A converts to Ay B converts to B C converts to L D converts to Dt E converts to I F converts to V G converts to J H converts to (blank) I converts to Ee J converts to Pt K converts to K L converts to H M converts to My N converts to Ny O converts to Oo P converts to P Q converts to K R converts to S S converts to R T converts to P U converts to Ew V converts to V W converts to V X converts to S Y converts to Ey Z converts to K 'P'i keweelk bsoovny voos ptewmypr oovis p'i haykey dtooj' "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" if SPACE can used (blank) converts to y "P'iykeweelkybsoovnyyvoosyptewmypryoovisyp'iyhaykeyydtooj"

Love this idea so thought I'd try it.
Minotaur - tried to form a combination of guttural and grunt sounds.
a converts to a b converts to ai c converts to s d converts to h e converts to i f converts to t g converts to b h converts to f i converts to u j converts to r k converts to k l converts to ug m converts to sh n converts to l o converts to gh p converts to y q converts to z r converts to ra s converts to mo t converts to n u converts to (blank) v converts to un w converts to oo x converts to (blank) y converts to la z converts to dz

A common minotaur who happened to say: "Pardon me sir, but you seem to be stepping on my pet human" Would be heard as: "Yarahghl shi moura, ain lagh moiish ngh aii moniyyulb ghl shla yin fshal"
Or: "Phillip! You'll be late for tea time!" As: "Yfuuguguy! Lagh'ugug aii ugani tghra nia nushi!"

Did you just call me fat? 'ui eaou ouwr sorr hea mor?
So you're calling me a liar! Wa eaou'grea sorruilr' hea o ruiogr!
Note: there are some intentional discrepancies between the upper and lower case's to differentiate how the letter would sound opening a word \ sentence.
