I finally have my son hooked up NWN and would like to get him on HG. I must be inept today because I've searched using various search terms and can't find the info for setting up a shared connection. Could someone please tell me what I need to do? I understand that I need to change a port number, just not sure where and what numbers to use.
thanks in advance SS

In the Neverwinter Nights\NWN\ directory there is a file called nwnplayer.ini. Open it up with a text editor and scroll down to the [Profile] section. Look for a line that says Client Port=x. change the number to something different on each computer that is sharing the internet connection, ie. 5121 5122 5123 etc.

That's important too, but if you're asking about how to initially set it up: If you have win XP I advise ruining the "network setup wizard" on both computers and following the instructions while looking at the examples they have there. But in a nutshell: You right-click your internet connection, go to properties, click on the advanced tab, and enable Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection Right-click on your network connection, go to properties, under the general tab scroll down till you see "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click properties, on the first computer which is connected to the internet the IP should be: 192.168.0.1 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, while on the second computer which is connected to the first computer the setting should be on Obtain an IP address automatically
This is all asuming you have the connections set up already, if not the wizard should help you out there.

Along the same lines - I play here (of course) and my son plays XBox live - how would I share my cable modem between us? The main issue I have is that the gateways are different for each of us so I have to reset the modem (even though both are dhcp) each time we switch off

Make and modle of router 2. Ipconfig info for both Xbox and PC 3. Make of Cable modem 4. Xbox or xbox 360 5. ISP (service provider)

you can set the gateway on your computers local area connection, just open this, the TCP/IP properties, set the ip address to a number with the first three numbers being the same ip as the router, the last being a number different from the router (192.168.1.120) will for on linksys. then subnet (usually 255.255.255.0) then default gateway which is the ip of the router (192.168.1.1 on my linksys) then set the dns servers to your isp's dns server, or 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1
