Goal: I have long been toying with how to build a monk that can hit consistenly while dual-wielding and at the same time maintaining a high AC. This led me to cleric, buffers extraordinaire. It had to be dex-based to achieve the AC goal, precipitating the need for the rogue class and Uncanny Dodge.
The first portion is the standard non-HG build. LL options are included at the end, but I thought these ought to be separate since 41-60 is a much longer road than 1-40.
It's difficult to build with these three classes without an experience penalty, but the way I've levelled it seems to avoid a penalty, which was part of my goal. I have tested this build in a trainer, and really liked what it produced.
What this is build IS: A melee build that gets the maximum number of attacks with a great AB, designed to be playable even when dispelled. With only his maxed GMW (undispellable), he'll still maintain a solid 50 AB. What I've found with my str-based battle cleric is that he's great buffed but REALLY starts to suffer when dispelled, which happens pretty often on HG. This build will also be able to achieve a much higher AC than a STR build. Please also note his saving throws are much higher than most cleric builds.
What this build IS NOT: Despite the high number of cleric levels, this is not a caster build. While you'll be able to mem some decent dmg spells, enemies will almost always make their saves since your DC is abysmally low, so I'd really avoid direct damage spells with this build. The 30 cleric levels are necessary to get maximum GMW, Magic Vestment, Barskin bonuses, etc--not to mention 30 is the minimum to qualify for the cleric mass ress secret.
You still get full cleric casting to lvl 9, so you can load up some low-powered nukes if that's your preference. While you only get Extend Spell in my version of the build, you could easily nix two Great Dex's at the cost of 1AB and 1AC and 1 reflex save and take Silent Spell and Maximize Spell for spellbook management. I personally think Extend spell is sufficient, since this build is focused on melee moreso than casting.
I won't include gear, since I think a build ought to focus on "naked" stats to level the playing field when comparing it to another build (so to speak).
Advantages
-Solid, workable AB. 40 base single-wielding, 50 with GMW, and you can get as high as 66 with maxed buffs/Dex pre-LL.
-3 Maximum AB attacks. With Haste (a given) and Divine Power, this build gets 3 attacks at the maximum AB bonus.
-Maximum number of attacks possible (using Flurry).
-Good AC. Naked AC is 36--he'll be neck and neck with straight dexer AC.
-Above average saving throws.
-Can pick up a bow and snipe as long as he's buffed (36 ab without buffs).
-40 UMD
Disadvantages
-Mediocre to low Hitpoints, though with a high AC build this isn't usually an issue.
-Low dmg initially, but that will only really be an issue until decent elemental weapons are available to you.
-Max cleric spells come later than I'd normally like (lvl 36 before getting 9th), but since lvl 6+ spells are low-priority for the intent of the build, I figured it wasn't a big deal.
