First of all, ty Tyran for great build, my first toon was based on it and i really enjoyed playing my kobold ranger. I decided to share my experience because as a newbie i was always looking for information about open - subrace builds capability in LL and hells. Well..what can i say, this build rocks in LL and can do well in first hell layers! Currently my ranger is dis tagged and had no problems in tia and dis, i am waiting with taking him to Min cuz i heard that it can be pretty hard. Most of the time i used thids light armor which gives free uncanny dodge, but i felt no diffrence when i put on Studs of Rincorin Wossname . Ac in ur tops out at 140 (i changed last two dex increases to wis... oh well... i am ac addict ) I really recommend this build to every newbie ! ;D

You should be fine until Phlegathos. That's the level when strength checks start to become more prevalent. Even then you'll be fine if you have a caster bard in the party.
I understand the desire to have uber AC. While it does make you feel better about your character, you should keep in mind that with or without that wisdom boost your still only ever going to get hit on a 20 roll. Once you gain a few more resources you will have the option of reincarnating to a more luxurious race or will have the gear to bump your AC a little higher anyway for the last few layers of the hells.

Just to confirm, using the enchantment book grants the +1 bonus ? I can't say I paid attention, but from wizard feats, using a book seemed to grant only the epic focus feat and not the sf and gsf feats. Therefore, according to the ranger requirement, epic focus shouldn't do anything for a ranger... ? Is this a glitch?
Also, for non-hells play, which 2 of the following would be best: Elves (mana...) Beasts (?) Magical Beasts (? hendron stuff..) Monstrous Humanoids (rona...)
Finally, I believe Beholders are imm to the positive dmg, but what FE would they be?

Tomes of Ancient Lore don't just give you the Epic Spell Focus or Penetration, they give you all 3 feats (i.e. Spell Focus, Greater Spell Focus, Epic Spell Focus), but only the Epic shows (i'm pretty sure this happens if you take the feats during normal levelling too).

Beholders are Aberrations. Also, my favored enemy choices are listed in the build.

I'd like to play this build however I hate playing subraces which change your appearance and inhibit the ability to see your equiptment. What would you recommend? Ideally i'd like to look like an elf or halfling.
Thanks

Hi Mustang,
I looked through the subraces for you, and I know you would enjoy an elf or halfling the build wouldn't be the same without the human aspect because you get the free feat at level 1 for being human. So....
I would recommend looking at any of the PT - Genasi subs under humans. Those that give dex and con are good choice. The -wis may be a problem. I was primarily looking at Water Genasi as a solid choice.

I'd advise looking and seeing if you can negotiate a trade for one.

Made a small adjustment to the build. Added 2 new favored enemies based on the newer areas and the pattern those set for the two LL level areas that will be released in the not so distant future. So, Humans and Blinding speed are out and Shape Changers and Magical Beasts are in. Going to look at the stat profile again sometime after Mid August. Probably no big changes are needed but keep in mind that you should always be keeping an eye out for subrace books that will allow you to upgrade this character. Even if its sub-optimal for Hells runs this same character could end up being a productive hell runner once you upgrade it.

The feats appear as retroactive class edits when you touch the legendary level altar. I'm not entirely sure if you have to be level 41 or just qualify for the edits and touch the altar at level 40. But, fear not you will get the feats.

I'm pretty sure you get them upon taking level 41.

I was thinking of running this build with the Nobarian subrace. The inclusion of Strong Soul as part of the subrace would allow the build to be followed.
My question is, with a large race, does the Dual Wield scale up?
I know that large creatures scale the Weapon Finesse. I am thinking Katana in the primary hand, but what would the limitations be in the off hand? Since large creatures cannot use tiny weapons, does that cause the build to not work in this case?

If you're talking about having a 'light' weapon in your offhand being required to minimize the dual wielding penalty, that still applies to large creatures. 'Light' means one size smaller than your character, so tiny for small characters, small for medium characters and medium for large characters.
Katana is medium, so presumably dualling katanas with a large character gives the minimum dualling penalty.

you can effectively dual any medium weapon with a large creature you can even do large+medium, or 2 spears, but that would mean -2 ab
