Giant of Torm - Gnoll Edition
(52 Barbarian/6 Champion of Torm/2 Rogue)
The original concept for this build was worked out by Brena and Sabregirl who sought to come up with a more robust barbarian character. The barbarian class suffers from two major weaknesses. First of all it has very few feats. Second of all it suffers from low reflex and will saves. Adding Champion of Torm (COT) levels helps relieve some of these issues. Adding 5 COT levels before level 20 adds 5 reflex saves to your character and several feats. The sixth COT level adds an additional post epic feat. Some time after the build was conceived the server added a new niche for double weapons (dire mace, two-bladed sword, and double axe). Characters with 30 or more barbarian levels could gain offhand attacks with these weapons (similar to dual wielding) even while wielding a shield (if they possessed the 3 dual weapon feats). Fortunately, this build with its extra feats was one of the few barbarian builds that could absorb the cost of three more feats.
This build is a front line tank capable of both taking lots of damage and delivering lots of damage. It is not the most defensive or offensively strong build on the server, but it is in the above average category in almost all offensive and defensive categories.
This build has several strengths.
Offensively, Giant of Torm is good against a variety of targets. The double weapons themselves have decent critical range and critical multiplier, and barbarian’s thundering rage feat adds a large amount of sonic damage to every hit. At level 60 this build (with gnoll) will in most situations have a top attack bonus of 96(97 fully buffed, and 98 with strength artifact). This offensive prowess is further increased by a high taunt skill, which can be used to lower the AC of almost any monster in the game.
Defensively, Giant of Torm has extra damage immunity and enough dexterity to take full advantage of any medium armor in the game. You will also have more hit points than the average fighter. These three features make it a very stable tank, even with less than idea gear. The builds saves are well rounded and will serve you well even should find yourself in the hells (the most demanding areas of the module). Once you reach 40 base strength, your greater rage ability (9 uses per rest) will allow you to be critical hit immune for the duration of the rage.
The weaknesses of this build are those held by most strength fighters. Lack of conceal options means you are going to get hit, and you are going to need fairly decent gear to dampen those hits. Not having enough “good gear" to survive as a strength fighter has often been sited as a reason to steer away from strength fighter builds as a new player. In my opinion the high hit points and extra damage immunity of this build does allow you to survive with poor gear better than most strength fighters. You will need to start looking for the Barbarian Shapestrong Rage secret when you get close to levell 40. You will need this before you can wear a two handed weapon with a shield. Until then it is recommend you use the best non two handed weapon you can find and a shield for better defenses.

Listen provides the offensive advantages of blindfight at 60 Listen (conceal reduction). By adding your wisdom modifier and buffs (potentially +50) from gear, bard song, and buffs to your base skill you can go over and above the conceal reduction of normal blindfighting making targets easier to hit. A common strategy for more feat rich builds is to take the Epic Skill Focus (Listen) skill and maximize the potential benefit of this skill.
Craft Armor (remaining points ~13)
Every 40 points of craft armor will grant you 1 AC. The remainder of your point + your intelligence modifier + bard song and/or gear should easily get you over 40 points granting you 1 AC.
