Adding to the list: -ask your party if they're ready before you trigger the next big spawn, especially the mages

I would have to agree with whitenoise and his attitude towards party etiquette. That is exactly how I feel and thats the way I play on HG.
I wish everyone played that way lol.

I must second this. Especially if your party is stood at the Gates To Lolth's Sanctum, and the Wizard is calling out "Wait Please, I'm leveling" several times (You know who you are!)

I agree with Grunts post too, expecially this point. There is nothing I hate more then someone shouting "Tower group invite!" If you want an invite, send a tell and ask nicely. Don't demand by shouting across the whole server! . I agree with this statement most of all. Unfortunately, with ability to shout across servers to announce a run, this has gotten worse. The bad thing is it is with higher level chars (for runs) and people who should know better.

In fairness, sometimes people *have* to shout stupid things because they either can't remember who they're on the run with, or don't know thanks to logging on to follow that kind of inter-server shout.
And of course, there is the need to shout when you're dead, because you can't click on the person's reply window. Odd situations, but it happens - especially if you log in dead and are not in your group anymore because of it.

This is an excellent thread, as I think loot etiquette in particular is an oft-ignored issue. The good news is that since there's been 4 servers, I haven't had nearly as much trouble finding groups (at all levels). The bad news is that the old mentality of just being grateful that I've found one makes me hesitant to ask about loot-splits. Don't get me wrong--I am extremely grateful that groups are so much easier to find these days, and feel like the influx of new players has only strengthened the gameworld. I think most people are pretty reasonable, but there have been several times when I've seen someone who is not the bank blithely loot everything in sight, while the rest of the party is fighting or resting. I've also been in parties where there is no formal "loot split" after the run is completed---the party just slowly evaporates, with no mention of loot. I guess I'm just appreciative of this thread, as it reminds me that it is perfectly ok to assert my claims for a fair share, or at least ask if it's a possibility upon joining. Many times, I simply don't say anything, as I don't want to be seen as a loot-monger, but it sounds like most people think it's generally ok to ask about loot-splitting policy when you join a group. Great thread. Cheers

having no rez scrolls to hand is no excuse as anyone who logs in a higher level toon to rez your ass will normally have a spare or too to give you so you can return the favour............. *IF* they give them to you before they leave. Have to remember the psychological principle of defusion of responsibility. Unless you ask someone specifically and give them a scroll, chances are they'll assume someone else in the group can / will and will be in the town readjusting their equipment before they even notice you are still dead...

OK, I've been on HG for about 2-3 weeks now intermittently. A few days ago someone asked me if I had been on HG Forum. That's when I found this place. I've always known there is a Code of Conduct, either written or unwritten, but because I was so new and because of the way I was treated several times early on, I went into a nice-guy self-preservation mode. Here are some of the things that happened and how I dealt with them, either rightly or wrongly.
I started the game with my favorite class, wizard, and found it somewhat difficult when party members were spawning monsters without notification. So I would run away, then realized I was spawning monsters too, so I quit running around and either stood very still or ran back to the previous area we cleared. Lesson learned.
Then when it came to loot, I would notice one or two party members picking up everything and never mentioning sharing. So I would summon my pixie familiar and go looting locked chests. I would always ID the loot, tell the party what I found and ask if anyone wanted any of it, even if I could use it. Probably not the most fair way to do it, since I was the decision maker, but again, I felt like I was getting the shaft early on and so I went into self preservation mode.
A good thing that happened the second day I played was that a player who had joined my party was generous and gave me money to buy planar binding and a few other scrolls so we could survive a few runs. I have since "paid it forward" to a few others, although I still haven't accumulated the kind of wealth that was given to me on my second day.

Most likely those looting were also new players...people that have been in the server for a while dont loot during low lvl runs...I would recommend asking when you join a run if someone will bank or not...if loot is free for all..well...just go for it.

DO UNTO OTHERS, AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM, DO UNTO YOU!! That's what my ol' dear taught me, I think it can be applied to the realms of HG party etiquette

Worst case scenario:
Be sure the person you assign to bank your loot ( if your party is wanting to have a banker) will not leave before the run is over. Also make sure he can be trusted.
Many times a person had said he could bank (i can hold 11700 pounds and my inventory is loaded with gem pouches!!!) and would go without splitting.

I had a wacko announce a desert run the other day while we were in Vashyks Ruin, after letting him know he should have checked scry first I let him join. He then said pretty much exactly that "Can I be the bank I can carry 13000lbs" (he must of put a cpl more points in STR) I said "No we have a bank, thanks". Then it was "I'll be the bank OK?" and he opened the next loot bag and took the stuff. That's when I cut him loose, thanks to a DM he stopped following without having to be harmed in any way.

Organised banking does not required any points in Str and anybody that starts off a conversation with the weight they can carry has to be viewed either as A) a newb or B) with suspicion. My mage with a Str of 7 quite often banks (I always set new toons up with a page of bags for carrying items). It also doesn't matter if you're already carrying near the 150 items limit as you'll be porting to your party leader in the Wyrm after a run won't you? and that does not cause the Encumbria script to get activated.

it doesnt? can you explain that a little further please? do you mean you have to port to leader IN the Wyrm or is it just porting to leader in general?
