Re-downloaded and still had the same error message ([.\erf.c:1430 WIN32] unable to open ERF 'erf/hge_updater.erf' for writing) so I poked around a bit. Noticed that I had a file (dated 2006) called simply "erf", no extension. This is a new install with patches etc done using the critical rebuilds and full CEP installer, etc. The file being there seems to have been affecting my download. Once I renamed that to erf.old, when I ran it again I did not get the message again; ALSO found that the erf folder was created correctly. It's still updating now, so I'll have to report back in the morning on whether it completed or not. Question though. I don't know CURL at all - so this might not even be related to the problem, or if it can be avoided. Question I had is, are you checking for whether "%current path%\erf" exists (just the path and not as a directory) before downloading to it? If so, that could be why it freaked out for me - and I would guess anyone else with a similar message might have "erf" file in their nwn folder. Disclaimer: I don't know CURL, so I don't know if that question makes sense at all.

If you were still getting that same error, you didn't overwrite erf.exe with the new version. I added some additional debugging to catch the problem.
I will definitely check for the case you mention, though.
Thanks, Acaos

Will do. Am at work now but will try either tonight or tomorrow. As soon as I get some time.

Just tried it again. Downloaded new files and deleted the old files (3 in nwn directory and all in the erf directory).
Ran CMD as admin with no UAC as per instructions on posts on previous page (without BAT or lnk file) and still got the same message with the tlk file.

If you redownloaded it (and overwrote the old erf.exe), you would have gotten a longer error message. Please try again and check - there's some debug after that I need to see.
Using the lnk is the right way to run it, also.
Thanks, Acaos

Have just done everything again. Deleted 3 files (2 links plus erf application) and the erf directory. Deleted the download zip just to make sure. Downloaded unzipped and clicked on the GUI link.
Error same as before : [.\erf.c:1595 WIN32] unable to open resource 'tlk/cep21_v1.tlk' for writing: Permission denied
Just to check I have the latest version of the erf file. Have just this minute downloaded if from the link

Error same as before : [.\erf.c:1595 WIN32] unable to open resource 'tlk/cep21_v1.tlk' for writing: Permission denied The 'permission denied' is what I needed to see; thank you. I compiled the application to request admin privs via UAC, so I guess you are not getting a UAC prompt. I will look into why that's not being done. Thanks, Acaos

Ahh didn't realise that was not previously on there. Have disabled UAC until this is resolved - hope this makes things easier?

Used this optimized version for couple of days now and noticed my game is slower than before, however weird that sound since this optimized version is supposed to make things less laggy in terms of gfx and such. This applies to my laptop, not my desktop. I lag specially when whole party are buffed and when in heavy gfx casting action. I also crashed 6 times today in Thids, in the overmind room. I have never crashed there before.
After installing the optimized version and CEP 2.2 I have not installed any new programs, no new drivers, not changed any settings in-game or out-game. Before update I never crashed or lagged out like this, so I wanted to post here in case there is something that can be done. It's a noticeable difference and this apply to all servers at any time, so not related to server lag. For the record I have also the newest drivers avilable for my laptop, installed before the HG ench update and was working fine uptil the hg ench update. Used the first version beta updater patch, standard gui version. Running Windows Vista Ultimate as stated in my previous post in this thread.
The thids crashing was today (16.Jan) at server 114. Playername Enrith with character Eowerin Di'relle at time 16.30 ish GMT +1.

Can you please try re-updating? I found and fixed a few bad models. You might need the newest updater (http://hge.hgweb.org/updater/hge_updater.zip).
I'll definitely look into the crashing to see what else I can find. If you make bug reports, please let me know if you're using the optimized CEP as well (the big download) or just the optimized HGE (the smaller one you can get through WorldGate).
Thanks, Acaos

As my post say, I used the beta updater to dowload both HG ench and CEP 2.2.
Will try the new updater, thanks.

(http://hge.hgweb.org/updater/hge_updater.zip). I tried this but can't get it working. Under Vista, running as admin with no UAC. The command window pops, disappears in the next 0.1 second and then, nothing happens. Thanks, Norrion

just some feedback...
I didnt get a single crash after I updated the HGEnhanced and reinstalled the other stuff I had (heads, portraits...), thou I didnt update the cep yet. I was getting out of sync in some runs even though my connection was still working fine. Maybe something was not correctly installed in my machine. I know a bud that had a really awfull lag because of a portrait I was using that was corrupted in his computer, and when he removed the corrupted files everything was fine again.
2 cents Jonuhey
