We've established a Higher Ground IRC channel on chat.neverwinterconnections.com. The channel is #hg if you want to log in and check out the (currently very lonely) channel.

An IRC channel is similar to an instant messenger program, like MSN. You need a chat client program to log in, Firefox's ChatZilla is a free extension. You only type in a command and you're there.

Another popular client is mIRC.
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is more like a server full of chat rooms then an IM program. For example you can join 1 chat room where all the HG folks hang out, or you could join HG, DT, HS, and ER channels. The NWN gamespy chat is very similar to IRC, except you can have MANY more channels (chat rooms).

So instead of logging in to HG to kill devils, fishies and angels, I can ... log in to IRC and ... chat

If ppl were thinking the way you did now, even the forums wouldnt be a good idea. Think about the good side... someday when you cant log in to the game to talk to your buds (and in the forums you dont get the feeling of a normal chat), you can go to the IRC channel and chat a bit with known and unknown ppl (if there are ppl there obviously ). I, personally, never used IRC to chat, even thou I do have chatzilla here since a long time ago when I used it to download some animes...
