Untouchable Stone
(An open subrace Accursed Pariah - 20 Barbarian/20 Sorcerer)
Quick note: This quasiclass is unique in many ways and is recommended not be played as first character on Higher Ground.
Quasiclasses are non-traditional class combinations which receive special benefits on higher Ground. The Accursed Pariah quasiclass is a conflicted combination of the magic loathing Barbarian and the born-to-magic Sorcerer. To qualify for Accursed Pariah the character must have 6 levels of Barbarian, 11 levels of Sorcerer, Greater Spell Focus (Transmutation), and the Still Spell feat before level 19. The Accursed Pariah cannot have and cannot take any levels in Cleric, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, Blackguard, or Champion of Torm. By counting Barbarian levels as Sorcerer levels for the purposes of spells, the normal downsides of taking so many non-caster levels are largely offset. The difficulty class (DC) for spells are determined by Constitution instead of Charisma. Accursed Pariah receives the 3 Epic Auto Still Spell feats for free, so, they can cast their spells in armor.
The mayor “feature” of the Pariah is
Curse of the Pariah:
- The Accursed Pariah's base Dexterity score is set to 6, his Charisma increased by 4, and he is transformed into a Large stone appearance.
- The Accursed Pariah is under a constant regeneration effect, regenerating 5% of their maximum hit points every 3 seconds. (A round is 6 seconds, so the regeneration effect is two times per round)
- Curing and healing spells do not function on the Accursed Pariah.
To make this clear: The Pariah can NOT BE HEALED! The Pariah heals himself/herself only by the regeneration effect. This makes the Pariah very unique to play. If the monsters can not inflict more damage than you regenerate, or in other words, if they can not “beat your regen”, then you stand in the middle of the mobs and kill them with your spells and mostly with “Kick Back” spells. Kick Back spells are spells that inflict damage if you are hit back on the attacker. The Pariah has some nice, mighty kick back spells. For the list of spells see below. BUT, if the monsters can beat your regen, you are in real trouble because you can’t heal yourself! You can only run away or make yourself invisible.
Casterlevel, Spell Penetration and DC
The Accursed Pariah uses sorcerer level + barbarian level (including legendary levels if control class is sorcerer or barbarian) to determine caster level for all sorcerer spells. His caster level is capped at his current (= buffed) Constitution score. (This build has full 60 casterlevels. Final constitution score is 54+12 buffed). When under the effects of Barbarian Rage, the Accursed Pariah uses his Constitution score as his base spell penetration (This build takes no Spell Penetreation feats and relies on Raging). The Accursed Pariah uses Constitution to determine DCs for all spells. He also receives an additional +1 to DC for all Transmutation spells.
Races
Base Race: Gnome
Subrace: "Fire Gnome"
- STR -2, CHA +2, resist fire 5/-, speaks Ignan
- All gnomes receive 2 additional skill points per level. Skill points for levels prior to 41 will be granted upon taking level 41 at the Altar of Legends.
- Gnomes get +2 constitution, -2 strength at character creation, and (beside some other abilities) spell focus (illusion).
This race/subrace gives bonus to constitution and charisma. Both are needed for the Pariah. The main attribute of a Pariah is Constitution, but unfortunately there are no ideal free subraces with high constitution boost. Gnomes have small statue, when you become a Pariah, you turn to large.

Levels 20/20
This character has 20 Barbarian and 20 sorcerer levels. This needs some explanations. Both sorcerer and Barbarian are caster levels for the Pariah. You want to take as much sorcerer levels for as many spells as possible. On the other hand, you want to have the Control Class to be Barbarian because they get +4 constitution (& strength) in legendary levels. With 20/20 levels your control class is the first class you take. Therefore, we take 20/20 and Barbarian at the first level.
Pre-Epic Levels
Level 1, Barbarian(1)
Feat: Blooded
Free Feat: Barbarian fast movement
Free Feat: Barbarian rage (1x/day)
Blooded, this is an investment feat that allows you to take Legendary Skill Affinity (Tumble) in legendary levels. Every 5 points basic rank of tumble increase your AC by 1.
Barbarian fast movement, this feat gives the barbarian a 10% bonus to movement.
Barbarian rage, boost temporary some stats and reduces AC. Since the boost falls within the +12 cap for statsboost, the only advantage is that when under the effects of Barbarian Rage, the Accursed Pariah uses his Constitution score as his base spell penetration.
Level 2, Sorcerer (1)
Please note that you can not cast spells in armor not until you become a Pariah. It’s a good idea to remove shield and armor when not in battle, cast buffing spells and re-equip.
Spells: See below the list with recommended spells for this build.
Familiar: Sorcerers get a small magical pet. It's not that important what you chose. The pixie is maybe the best choice since it can open some chests for you.
Level 3, Barbarian(2)
Feat: Heavy Armor Prof.
Free Feat: Uncanny dodge I
Heavy Armor Prof., Barbarians start with medium armor as best armor. Heavy Armor Prof. qualifies to take heavy armor. Since the dexterity of a Pariah is set to 6, heavy armor is very desirable for higher AC and also for the better physical damage reduction heavy armor offers.
Uncanny dodge I, the character retains his dexterity bonus to AC, even if caught flat-footed or attacked by a hidden or invisible creature.
Level 4, Barbarian(3)
Stat Increase: Constitution
Level 5, Barbarian(4)
Free Feat: Barbarian rage (2x/day)

Level 8, Sorcerer (4)

So, you have the potential for more than one tier of a particular spell using a tier higher than its base level. This will allow you to customize your spell book better and have more of the spells that work best in a particular area at your disposal and less wasted slots. You will need to install the HG Enhanced hak to have access to the full selection of spells on an "extended" tier.
Uncanny dodge II, the character retains his dexterity bonus to AC, even if caught flat-footed or attacked by a hidden or invisible creature. This feat grants a +1 bonus on reflex saving throws made to avoid traps.

Armor Skin, grants your character an additional 2 AC for the cost of only one feat.
Level 18, Sorcerer (12)
Feat: Toughness
Toughness: Gives you +1 hitpoint per character level, 60 in total. Considering that the Pariah get 10% of its hitpoints regeneration per round, taking Toughness gives in addition to the 60 hitpoint + 6 regeneration indirectly. Very desirable for the Pariah!

Horrible! Ouch Ouch! Reflex and will saving throws are pure pain. But that is normal for a Pariah since they are feat tight and can not take Paladin or Blackguard. Some people prefer to take will + Legendary will to make will savings better, but you would have to ditch something else important…
Spells (special Pariah Spells are marked with +):
- Level 1: Expedious Retreat, Grease, Endure elements, Magic Weapon+, Horizikaul's boom
- Level 2: Resist Elements, Flame Weapon, Death Armor, Stone bones+, Acid arrow
- Level 3: Greater Magic Weapon+ , Keen, Gust of Wind, protection from elements
- Level 4: Bestow Curse+, Elemental Shield, Ice storm, Wall of fire
- Level 5: Bigby's Interposing Hand, Energy Buffer, Mestil’s Acid Sheath, Firebrand
- Level 6: Flesh to Stone+, Greater stoneskin+, Stone to flesh+ // Till level 40 I would take Tenser's Transfromation and then change the spell to Flesh to Stone+
- Level 7: Bigby's Grasping Hand, Finger of death, Great thunderclap
- Level 8: Greater Sanctuary, Bigby's Clenched Fist, Horrids Wilting
- Level 9: Mordenkainen's disjunction, Bigsby's Crushing Hand, Meteor Storm
Magic Weapon – Gives some extra magic damage to your weapon.
Greater Magic Weapon - The Accursed Pariah's Greater Magic Weapon spell uses Transmuation rather than Enchantment for enhanced enhancement bonus, and in addition receives an additional +1 enhancement bonus, to a maximum of +15 with Legendary Spell Focus (Transmutation).
Greater Stoneskin - The Accursed Pariah's Greater Stoneskin spell can be cast while wearing armor or a shield, unlike a normal Sorcerer's.
Stone Bones - When cast by an Accursed Pariah upon himself, the Stone Bones spell grants 1% physical immunity for every 2 caster levels. In addition, all critical hits will do half damage, as if the caster had 127 Parry skill.
Stone to Flesh - When cast by an Accursed Pariah upon himself, the Stone to Flesh spell creates a damage shield which does 2d12 + (CL * 3/2) piercing damage.
Flesh to Stone - When cast by an Accursed Pariah, the spell gets +1 DC per 15 caster levels.
Lowered Epic Requirement - Accursed Pariahs may acquire the Transmutation arcane epic spell without 25 levels of Sorcerer, and cast it using their Sorcerer level plus their Barbarian level.
Any improvements and suggestions are welcome,
Yours

Horrible!

- Level 5: Bigby's Interposing Hand, Energy Buffer, Mestil’s Acid Sheath, Firebrand
- Level 6: Flesh to Stone+, Greater stoneskin+, Stone to flesh+ // Till level 40 I would take Tenser's Transfromation and then change the spell to Flesh to Stone+
- Level 7: Bigby's Grasping Hand, Finger of death, Great thunderclap
- Level 8: Greater Sanctuary, Bigby's Clenched Fist, Horrids Wilting

Any improvements and suggestions are welcome,
Yours
