I've definitely have been considering the 13 RDD option. You can sort of think of the 30% fire immune as a feat. The bigger problem IS the loss of 3 penny. You're already going in with 57 non BFM penny, and 54 isn't very pretty at all. I guess you could make the argument that if you have 57, you're not going to affect anything but things with no SR later on, but it still hurts all your buff durations and etc. Taking 13 also gives you your AC back, as you gain 1 more. Also, if you are a radiance Gensai, I think you're better off taking 29/10/1, you gain less from going 13 RDD than someone without the 25% immune would. I guess its also incentive to use the Cha arty, which will give you an additional 10%. not really true tho, 13 RDD gives you absolute immunity that that element. means it cannot be reduced by anything. including hell penalty, you can totally forget about the damage from that element. and if you use radiant genesai you can go say black dragon disciple and get absolute immunity in acid and 25% in fire.

I don't know about you, but I don't find the loss of 3 sorc levels all that great. Granted, 70% won't cover everything, but if you have a buffer up, you should be immune to fire most of the time. (I don't like to have elemental shield up because of the monster kickback mechanics) I know that I absolutely love bigbying things with my bfm, but it doesn't always work, and it's even less likely with 26 rather than 29. As for the immunities, I thought you had to stay red to be a bfm. It really wouldn't make sense to have say, a black dragon bloodfire mage, the red dragon disciple levels fuel their fire spells, so, you should in all reality have to stay red. (Else I would have taken white for all the cold kickback in cania would have saved me more than one headache.) And if you by some odd chance can, don't you think you should bug report it?

As just demonstated in the rather vicious cage match "Kobolds vs. Goblins", this build rocks. I plan to remake and demi my Goblin burninator as I enjoyed playing him so much. Cheers bud, -Bort

I added an Atomie variant to the subrace subroutine. I also, after some personal debate, decided to switch my 6th level and 8th level spells around, as those bigbies are quite useful. (6th one KDs quite well, still has Sr problems though, and the 8th level one deals nice damage against those lacking in SR and high in fire immunity). I'm also considering removing Incindiary cloud, since it is kind of useless.

I'm beginning my first real Bloodfire Mage finally, as I just recently got Radiance Genasi from Mish in trade.
I know crushing hands work 10% more often than graspies, but I'm thinking of taking Timestop instead. Crushy hands are nifty, but as you said the SP is an issue... and Timestop can be a lifesaving panic-button when trying to save a run. Also, I decided to take Mind Blank on 8th instead of Incendiary Cloud. Duration is nearly as good as a standard mage (or you could extend it I guess), and that utility is just nice to have. Oh, and Lesser Mind Blank on 5th.

Heya,
Using Chaos Gnome I was able to fit in Epic Spell Focus: Illusion instead of Armor Skin and Great CON 1.
I was then wondering whether to take Weird instead of Mordekainen's Disjunction assuming that I'll always have scrolls.
Also, this modification would mean that my Ethereal Visage in robes is now effectively +5% if I can fit in LL: Illusion - seems so to me. Same can be said of Displacement really.
Finally, this modification gives me access to Starfire, which would be a great way to start a Hellball barrage.
Edit: Did I mention the Etherealness granted from Ghostly Visage ? It will last 5 rounds (10 rounds / 10 casterlevels with LSF:I) Also, it doesn't seem that GV is affected by medium armor should I switch to it - but that must still be tested.

Umm, how do you dress your BFMs? I built mine on Rakshasa, and I'm terribly, terribly squishy. Do you use robes or medium armor? Do you give up dachy gear for better resistances?

never use dachy gear, not worth it expecially while levelling up, and sorcs get a lot of free slots now, even if quasi.
my bfm ( not that I play it much but it's the reincarnation of my first sorc so I don't want to delete it.. ) is wearing medium armor, the chainmail of the weave because i'm worried about exotic kickback

Heya, Using Chaos Gnome I was able to fit in Epic Spell Focus: Illusion instead of Armor Skin and Great CON 1. I hope you had an even CON score to start then... I was then wondering whether to take Weird instead of Mordekainen's Disjunction assuming that I'll always have scrolls. Hmm, well casting it takes less time than scrolling it, but I suppose it's an option. Your DC will be 1 higher than a sorc's since RDD gives a Cha bonus, just watch the penetration. Also, this modification would mean that my Ethereal Visage in robes is now effectively +5% if I can fit in LL: Illusion - seems so to me. Same can be said of Displacement really. I would use displacement. It's a change between 70%-55%, and I'm not sure if that is worth the armor... maybe. Well, if you have the illusion foci, by all means take it! never use dachy gear, not worth it expecially while levelling up, and sorcs get a lot of free slots now, even if quasi. How strange, I geared mine head to toe in Dachy casting gear when levelling up, with a handmaiden's regret too. You're probably going to be levelling in the desert most of the time (Don't do ssith, it's not pretty), and aside from the Devariel, you can outmaneuver and blast with some tank support.

I've tried Ssithrak medium armor + displacement, and Moldavite robes + EV on mine. The medium armor does give 25% to elements and implosion immunity, but I seem to do better with the robes plus EV (65% conceal). For Ssith bridge I've switched to keeping the robes on and using empowered lesser spell mantle. A bit more risky in terms of implosions but much better for arrows and melee. I try to firebrand the priests before they can get their implosions off anyway. At the moment mine is wearing Moldavite robes, Ur-Ward, UR Staff, Tia belt and boots, Unitary Focus helm, Ecto cloak, Kyrtsay gauntlets mainly for the divine, but Golden Guard may be better if you have them, and Pendant of the Seer amulet for the extra exotics. Certainly not an ideal setup, but it's been ok for LL runs and first couple Hells levels. It's certainly a lot more squishy than my cheese sorc -- the lower conceal and soak do that.

From the Red Dragon Discipline section of the Ability Change Books thread in the Class/Ability/Spell Customizations forum: I've found it's important to study the relevant text on that thread for each class I'm taking. With 10 RDD levels, you've got 70% immunity, which means it's pretty easy to cover the rest. Even when you're getting hit right and left with things that add fire vulnerability (*cough* Phleg *cough*) you'll never go worse than 70%, whereas non-RDD companions decked out in fire immunity gear may find themselves at -400% if they don't restore.
