ruddigore, re: toughness: 1 extra hit point per level is nothing to be scoffed at. I've fought dragons where the extra HP gotten from toughness was the difference between death and not death when they breath. I've been in lagged fights where I click the heal potion just to watch my hp continue to drop until, a minute later, the potion kicks in with only a milimeter of health left.
You'd take epic dodge to avoid one hit wouldn't you? Think of toughness as negating one or two hits, maybe three at the very start of a fight rather than one hit per round.
If that doesn't appeal to you then, by all means, take your saves bonus.

On the other hand, 10,000 hp wouldnt help when a heartseeker scarab kills you instantly because you fail your fort save. Which needs to be 60 so at least you only die when you roll a one. I guess youre gonna have a weakness one way or another, it would be nice to have 140 ac and saves in the 60's but thats asking a lot. Just comes down to personal preference.

Which needs to be 60 so at least you only die when you roll a one. That's incorrect. Might want to try it with a few different characters. Funky

Most of these are minor changes to the build, in the form of trade offs. Its less about overall improvement of the build and more about personal preference at this point.

Coming right up! For the non secret halflings, I would just go with the conservative rule of no int or dex hits, which leaves you with deep halfling, ghostwise halfling, or tallfellow halfling. Ghostwise will help you up to lvl30 with its 10% conceal, or tallfellow gives you fast movement rate. Not as snazzy as derrzagon, but works just fine.

and put 13 points into pickpocket (21 if you are derrzagon or lycan.) Since Atomie gets +5 to pickpocket as a race characteristic, does that mean it requires only 8 pts?

For those who wish to go against the grain, this build also works with halfling illithid. You get iron will and slippery mind as free feats, and can use rapier / tower shield. The obvious downside is that you'll lose 2 dex vs. tiefling. This isn't so terrible for this build. The other downside is that everyone thinks you're a wizard, and since your weapon isn't on display you will always have to speak up to get weapon buffs.

since will saves seem to be the major downside of this build, how about to trade in self conceal V for slippery mind?
conceal would still be at 40%, but your chance to make a will save would increase dramatically.
or drop another two dex from the build (finishing with great dex 6). then go for self conceal V, slippery and uhm some other save bonus?

You could, but its a trade off, your losing conceal/main stat. Similar to the luck of heroes vs toughness suggestion, its a valid suggestion, but less about overall improvement of the build and more personal preference.

I didn't notice it anywhere while glancing through here, so I was just wondering if there would be a major problem with doing this build with a pixie. My wife recently got that subrace, and is looking for builds to try with it. I thought this would be an awfully good one for her (she hates dying, and likes disarming traps and opening locks . Any reason not to do this with pixie?

2 things about pixie I dislike, first the con penalty, which means less HP. Another thing is pixies don't get the small stature feat, which costs them 1 AB and AC over halflings.

I'm no expert, but it seems by looking at the suggested races, the only one that starts with DEX as low as 20 has a con boost which slightly makes up for it. Pixies take a CON hit don't they? Don't know how significant that it but it seems a likely explanation. But perhaps movement speed and SR would make up for that.
