katanas are still medium sized, so you are still taking the -4/-4 penalties. kukris have exact same requirements but is tiny so uses the -2/-2 penalties

However the base damage on katanas is a bit higher than kukris, and the damage types on katanas are generally better. Either way I wouldn't use a feat for exotic on my dexer bard as feats are far too much at a premium.

I suppose if you make a similar build with 38/1/1 brd/pal/mnk, you get another bonus feat from bard 38, so you could use that for exotic. It gets you a few more song levels too, though, I would personally use that bonus feat for artist and a 60th song, but thats a personal preference.

Personally I'd still want to go at least 2 pally for fear immune (unless you had a wis arti). But the extra feat is an option I suppose.

I've got a Half-Kyton version of the 37/2/1 build in the works. Due to the lack of relevant bonus feats and CHA bonus, some choices must be made! I understand that AC is pretty important to these builds, so I'll focus there first.
My baseline build achieves 127 AC with BURs, no demi or artifact, two less than Xiyo (my starting WIS is 2 lower, and I can only get Great Wisdom 2). I can bump that up to 128 at the cost of Toughness + ESF Perform, but that seems a high price to pay.
Alternatively, if 127 AC is ok, I'd consider trading out Toughness to make room for LSF Illusion or Enchant. I understand that the Enchant book used to be standard operating procedure, but perhaps the changes to EV conceal have changed that. I'm a bit worried at being run out of town for creating a bard that can't give weapon buffs. I already can't keen non-slashing.
Finally, Yomi mentioned Parry as a possible selection. I really like this, though it requires me to give up either Taunt or UMD. I'm leaning towards Taunt, particularly with the low CHA on this build, but I really have no idea how useful it may be.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers, Perin

low cha is not a hindrance to taunt on this build I can regularly reach 127 taunt without problem and if you ask anyone that parties with Xiyo they'll tell you she uses it constantly. Xito still has +13 gmw but it's been very rare she's needed it. Still she seems to do okay without the conceal. I'd hold off using a book on a bard for a while though -S
