The Zenploder. He appears to be a relatively unique build (at least I havent seen any others like him yet). He is a bit different than a standard imploder, but it can fill the required slot just fine and adds a slightly different twist to the standard caster- and battle-cleric builds.
He's not really a battle cleric as he is not STR-based, and he's not really a caster-cleric as he has AA levels and a longbow. He's a AA-cleric hybrid moderate if not great bow damage who can implode and buff almost as well as a caster. His implosion DC is only 1 point lower than a pure ploder build cleric and his spell penetration is 2 lower than a 2 splash cleric. He also has all sorts of cleric buffs for self buffing goodness. The 3 aa levels are to get Divine tenser's to work properly and use AA bows.
He won't be on top for damage or kills, but he can implode machines and winds and fumes and such and still has an unlimited damage from his bows on any PF, malebranch, boss, etc... Plus he's got some epics and other treats.
I've taken him through stygia so far and hes does fine. No problem imploding the critical mobs and his ruin and dom are life savers for random spawns. He requires a bit different tactics than a normal cleric. Very low AC means you have to be a bit more careful wher you stand and your battle tide is harder to take advantage of, but as long as you keep gate up it's not a problem. Due to gear issues, I find that i can't spam implode as much as my regular ploder cleric so i am more into picking and choosing. I concentrate on the machines, winds, fumes etc... and I tend to hold off on that first implode a bit until after the debuffs hit. He has no problem ploding them, but with fewer spell slots i tend to conserve more, and with being able to shoot the PFs, etc... at the start it's not wasted rounds.
You could argue that he's not as optimal as a pure cleric, but i think he's more fun to play due to extra choices and still manages to fill the required role of fume/wind/machine killer.
Here goes.
Final build double demi in +14s
AB 95 (98 double demi and arti) (+2flanking and +1point blank shot which happens more than I thought it would... theoretically 101ab). (this is with generous CW gear assumptions.
AC 106 with girding (crunch! but he has gat)
hp: 898 + buffs
Fort: 57
Reflex: 53 (i spent most of stygia at long range)
Will: 78
Str: 22/26
Dex: 30/34
Con: 26/30
Int: 30/34
Wisdom: 68/72
Cha: 20/24
with AA bows hes 18/20x3 and does 5d8 elementaldamage
+96, +91, +96
+98, +93, +88, +83, +78
Pro's:
- He can miracle to save wipeouts.
- He can epic dominate randoms (it's a shame you can't parse a dom'd orthon's damage to its owner)..
- He has a full LSF gate with 56 cleric levels (112/-) which is really the only way he can tank - He can cast Greater ruin at only a slightly lower dc than a splash build (make sure you wait for the curse and it seems to usually be fine)
- He has an implode (only 1 off of a pure cleric). With arti, 2x demi, and +14 items, it's dc58 and if you could fit in a godly aug - 59. Imploding isn't a problem.
- His cleric evocation spells should also work pretty well other than implode, but i havent really used them much as i prefer the bow and greater restore when not imploding. His prayer and BT works just fine also.
- He can heal a fester or use cure disease or paralysis like a regular Cleric.
- Greater restores work at a full cleric level, so he is an AA who can GR himself and other party members- dont underestimate how much this helps.
- His cleric buffs all work just fine. Energy buffer, battle tide, monstrous regen, foundation of stone, etc... and he can cast a pretty good CC to buff his listen .
- His melee is viable... he can hit most any mob with 98ab and with the divine tensers he gets plenty of attacks per round.
- High
- UMD for use of scrolls, wands, etc...
- mildly useless and unexpected bonus: divine glory gives him a few bonus magic damage if you ever remember to cast it
- can deal with most concentration checks
Con's:
- He's not exactly a damage machine, knowing your bows per mob helps even more here than on a normal AA. He wont compare to any melee-centric or normal AA builds, but he will generate consistant melee damage to bosses (low but real)
- AC is non-existant - so low, in fact, that i didnt even bother with LSA tumble due to skill and feat tightness
- No inherant form of crit immunity.
- Pretty feat-tight and skill tight
- No dev crit or keen which reduces his damage alot from normal AAs
- AA bows damage is very low (5d8) due to so few AA levels (perhaps AA levels at 2/3 of cleric level for bow would help here? hint hint!)
- Biggest con, however, is gear. Since he uses a bow he gets no spell slots from a staff like a normal cleric does. That leaves you balancing between decent melee and listen gear with extra tia gear. I find my biggest problem is running out of implodes due to gear setup tightness on spell slots.
- Low saves, but he can play from long range when the area demands higher saves (webs in stygia were a good example) - saves are overrated anyway for any non-tank
